Overview

Assist in project activities focusing on SDGs for students.

You have:

  • A first-level degree in education, business management, or related field is required.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in education, business management, or relevant areas is required.
  • Fluency in Arabic is required and knowledge of English and/or French is desirable.

Result of Service The incumbent will ultimately be responsible to provide general assistance to the team in the implementation of phase III of the project in selected schools in Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait.

Duties and Responsibilities The ESCWA Stories Team was established by the ESCWA Executive Secretary to mainstream the United Nations values and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among students aged between 8 and 14 in the Arab region, through the production and dissemination of a comic book including stories on the SDGs. The Team visits educational institutions, interacts with students and teachers, and organizes events for the promotion of the comic book and its objectives. It also supports the schools in implementing development projects within the school or in its neighbourhood. Against this background, the ESCWA Stories Team is seeking the services of two project assistants to assist in the implementation of the project activities in Lebanon.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Team in the timely dissemination of the ESCWA Stories comic book in the educational institutions (volumes I, II and III) in schools in Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait and others.
  • Participate in several rounds of field visits and/or online sessions with the schools to introduce the SDGs and the ESCWA Stories Project; and assist in the planning and implementation of educational activities for students aged between 8 and14, throughout the academic year 2023-2024.
  • Support in reviewing individual schoolwork plans and ensure that the comic book is used as an educational tool to help mainstream the SDGs among students.
  • Assist in distributing two surveys and in collecting and analyzing data, to produce statistical data on the project’s results.
  • Support in the documentation of relevant school activities and in the archiving of relevant material.
  • Follow-up on school activities and report the status of implementation to the team leader.
  • Assist the Team in the planning and organization of events (inside schools or at the UN-House) to showcase the students’ creative work related to ESCWA Stories and the SDGs (artwork, interactive readings, creation of new characters, theatrical adaption, community service activities, etc..).
  • Provide general assistance to the team members when needed.

    Qualifications/special skills A first-level degree in education, business management, or other relevant background is required.

All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. At least 2 years of proven relevant experience in the fields of education, business management, and/or other relevant areas is required. Working with educational institutions is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.

For this position, fluency in Arabic is required. Knowledge of English and/or French is desirable.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Additional Information Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
