Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Pakistan focuses its efforts on poverty reduction, food security, sustainable livelihoods, and rural development. FAO has collaborated with the Government of Pakistan on research and development, training, extension services, and strengthening of the staff capacity in planning and policymaking. FAO has supported improvements in agricultural policy analysis and strengthened institutions. Enhanced integrated area development and expanded participation of marginalized and vulnerable communities in sustainable development.

The position will be based in Secretary Agriculture Sindh Office Karachi and will support numerous activities of GCF project under FAO Pakistan’s profile in Sindh Province.

The position is at SB 3 SC 6 level.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Pakistan, the direct supervision of Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), Technical Advisor, and in close coordination with Head of Sindh Province, the incumbent will undertake the following activities;

Technical Focus

  • Create, foster and maintain a wide network of contacts and partnerships with Govt. bodies, IGOs/INGOs, private stakeholders, UN agencies and other stakeholders in Sindh;
  • Support Programs section in their communications with Provincial Government Departments in collection of Government data for FAO Pakistan’s planning purposes;

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Support in building and strengthening relationships between UNFAO and relevant Provincial Government Departments
  • Conduct stakeholder mapping and analysis for smooth implementation of FAO Projects.
  • Work closely with office of Secretary, Agriculture, Supply & Prices Department, and Government of Sindh for the implementation of the GCF project and Unilateral Trust Fund (UTF) project.
  • Maintain public relations and communication with Government Departments, FAO and Private Stakeholders in Sindh wherever needed.
  • Develop relationships, and provide on-going liaison, with partners and key government departments and ministries and ensure that provincial level coordination is intact;
  • Plan and coordinate the progress review and planning meetings with the Government high level authorities and also the implementation units with the Government Departments
  • Provide support in organizing the program meetings at provincial level, high level project’s Steering Committee meetings and preparing & issuing of the minutes of meeting for record and follow up;
  • Assist Programs section on specific regulations implemented by the Provincial authorities that impact the ability to implement activities and/or impact the speed of implementation;
  • Support cooperation with relevant stakeholders, institutions, organizations for productive collaborations.
  • Ensure the submission of project reports from the program team to the relevant Departments.
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Agriculture, Social Science/Natural Science, and Communication Science.
  • Minimum 05 years of relevant experience of coordination with Government departments
  • Working knowledge of English
  • Working knowledge of the Urdu and Sindhi Language
  • National of Pakistan.

  • Facilitate regular provincial level meetings/workshop and communicate to ensure full participation by all relevant stakeholders;
  • Facilitate in successful implementation of the on-going project activities through engaging the Provincial level government offices;
  • Assist Programs team in preparation and finalization of strategic documents related to Project implementation.
  • Strong communication and presentation Skills
  • Computer Skills in Microsoft Applications (Report writing/presentation)
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams is essential.
  • Very good writing skills in English
  • Retired/Civil Servants also eligible to apply with condition to provide the NOC
