• Advanced University Degree (master’s or equivalent) in one of the fields of Natural Sciences (Environment, Ecology, Hydrology, Earth Sciences and Basic Sciences) and/or Engineering.
• A minimum of 4 (four) years of relevant professional experience in the field of natural sciences of which preferably 2 (two) years acquired at the international level.
• Good analytical, organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken).
• Familiarity with the political context and region.
• Familiarity with the work and general functioning of international organizations and/or the United Nations system.
• Good knowledge of Arabic (written and spoken).

**OVERVIEW** ------------ Post Number : 5QASC0002RP Grade : P-3 Parent Sector : Natural Sciences Sector (SC) Duty Station: Doha Job Family: Natural Sciences Type of contract : Fixed Term Duration of contract : 2 years, renewable Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 04-MAR-2024 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for the Natural Sciences Sector (ADG/SC), and direct supervision of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen in Doha (DIR/FU/DOH), the incumbent will assist the Member States of the Regional Office in Doha (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen) in the preparation, execution, monitoring, and follow-up of UNESCO’s programmes and activities in the field of natural sciences notably in terrestrial environmental, water sciences, disaster vulnerability, and risk management. S/He will also support Member States and the regional organizations in their efforts to implement National Development Plans and the United Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (UNSDCFs), and contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The incumbent will be responsible for providing professional and technical support, research and analysis, with an emphasis on the national and regional contexts, to develop, implement and evaluate programme initiatives to promote learning and sustainable societies, and support Member States in advancing science, technology, innovation, research and engineering to address contemporary environmental and societal challenges towards the implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science. S/He will work as part of the interdisciplinary team in the Regional Office in Doha collaborating with relevant stakeholders and with technical guidance from Natural Sciences Programme Divisions at UNESCO Headquarters and Natural Sciences Programme Specialists from other regional offices of the Arab Region amongst other regions.
