Background

Climate shocks contribute significantly to humanitarian needs and lead to poverty and food and nutrition insecurity, in addition to health and longer-term recovery challenges. Nigeria is regularly affected by multiple hazards, such as floods. Low-income households are the most vulnerable to natural disasters. In 2016, the Nigerian government rolled out a comprehensive National Social Safety Net Programme (NASSP).
