ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This job is found in Lao Country Office and job holder directly reports to Programme Policy Officer (Nutritionist) and overall supervision by Head of Programme. Job holder is likely to be working under the close support and guidance of a more experienced professional staff member receiving guidance and regular feedback on work performed. S/he is typically involved in programme or policy activities or similar nature and analytical work of limited complexity.

JOB PURPOSE

The objective of the coordinator is to support the implementation and management of ongoing operations of the SBN, with the aim of increasing engagement of the private sector in nutrition and food security and develop a sustainability strategy for SBN Lao PDR.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Mobilize businesses and private sector partners to increase awareness of role in nutrition
  • Develop fundraising/sustainability strategy for SBN Lao PDR
  • Increase commercial engagement in the nutrition market
  • Support the Nutrition Centre in the roll out of the workforce nutrition programme
  • Communications and reporting
  • Carry out other tasks, as required, to support the day-to-day activities of engaging with the private sector on nutrition in Lao PDR.

FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES

Transfer Modalities (Food, Cash, Voucher) Demonstrates ability to analyse and consolidate quantitative and qualitative information from different sources (e.g., market studies) to inform transfer modality selection and programme development. Broad Knowledge of Specialized areas (i.e. Nutrition, VAM, etc.) Demonstrates the ability to interpret basic data in the context of WFP specialised fields to contribute to technical programme design, implementation and monitoring. Emergency Programming Displays capacity to provide inputs into the development, implementation and realignment of high quality emergency programmes. Strategic Policy Engagement w/ Government Develops thorough recommendations using multiple inputs (e.g., government counsel, research, own experience) to strengthen national or subnational entities and government owned food and nutrition security programmes.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced University Degree in Business, Marketing, Communication, Development Economics, and any other relevant field.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Advanced University Degree in Business, Marketing, Communication, Development Economics, and any other relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in private sector work.
  • Experience in dealing and negotiating with business associations and networks.
  • Experience developing various media products, including social media and organizing multi-stakeholder events.
  • Well experienced in international or resource-challenged settings.
  • Solid understanding of private sector engagement, preferably in nutrition, with a broad knowledge of best practices, techniques, and processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, persuade, influence, and adapt communication styles to different situations and individuals. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, including cross-cultural teams.
  • Knowledge of nutrition issues in developing countries will be an added advantage.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office package skills with proven experience.
  • Excellent command of English and Lao language is essential.
