What will you do in this position?

You will provide operational support to the Deputy Regional Director (DRD) working closely with all units within the Regional Bureau, Dakar (RBD) and with the Country Offices (COs) in the region.

You will work under the direct guidance and supervision of the DRD.

How can you make a difference?

In this position, you will have to:

Support to Deputy Regional Director (operations support)

  • Monitor the implementation of the overall operational team’s priorities and actions plans
  • Measure and track the level of units’ integration through joint planning, support and monitoring
  • Monitor and follow up on the appropriate implementation of units’ action plans
  • Track progress in the results table of operational support implementation
  • Track and maintain records of COs’ support requests
  • Assist the DRD with the preparation and management of the monthly operational team meeting
  • Help coordinate and consolidate inputs from RBD technical units and COs
  • Support to DRD to internal and regional coordination platforms (IASC, Sahel Regional Coordination group, Unicef partnership, etc)
  • Review and analyse reports and briefs and provide feedback
  • Provide support with the development of strategic papers, briefs, talking points
  • Prepare for DRD field missions with briefs packages and ensure follow-up on mission recommendations
  • Support follow up on RD mission OPS recommendations, and OPS oversight recommendations
  • Draft talking points and develop presentations ahead of meetings when needed

Manage Reporting and Presentation

  • Ensure analysis and compilation of documents and data in a wide range of areas (drafting and editing of documents, tables and presentations)
  • Maintain up to date on lessons learned, evaluations, programmes, studies and research from regional and elsewhere.
  • Ensure mailing list and tables of contact are up to date
  • Support dissemination of recommendations and best practices, ensure OPS SharePoint is regularly updated for effective archive, knowledge management and capitalisation
  • Perform any other tasks as required by the DRD

Education: A university degree in Development Studies, in International Affairs, Economics, Social Sciences, Public Administration or Business Administration.

Experience: At least one year of professional experience, preferably in the International Humanitarian/Development field. Previous experience with WFP would be an asset.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent writing skills with demonstrated ability to write concise and analytical reports under time constraints
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally
  • Ability to establish priorities, plan and organise work programme with minimum supervision
  • Tact, persuasiveness and ability to work in multicultural and diverse settings
  • Understanding of political dynamics and decision making and proven ability to establish and maintain good working relations with various RBD units, COs and external partners
  • Willingness to travel

Language: an intermediate level in French and Excellent Command in English languages are required.
