JOB PURPOSE

The Food Security Analyst will work for WFP’s Multi-Country Pacific Office as part of a team and under the supervision of the VAM Officer. This role was developed to cover maternity leave, and will support data analysis through remote and face-to-face assessments, food security monitoring systems, data management and overall coordination with Food Security Cluster, Information Management Officer and other partners and stakeholders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Compile baseline indicators, clean and structure data and update vulnerability indicators with a focus on food systems, food security, livelihoods, and markets, emergency preparedness and response.
  2. Support and coordinate production of rapid, face-to-face, and remote assessments, including designing trainings and surveys, coordinating government counterparts and stakeholders, monitoring data management and collection, analyzing and interpreting data, and writing reports.
  3. Adapt and contextualize WFP food security analysis tools for Pacific countries with the focus of integrating these within local governments, including new technologies, approaches, methods, and analysis.
  4. Ensure knowledge products are developed in collaboration with end users and are informed by user-centered design principles by engaging stakeholders to ensure solutions are adopted widely.
  5. Provide technical support to national governments, establishing workflows to boost capacity and improve data management (from collection to final report) in support of food systems analysis, food security and livelihoods, and emergency preparedness and response.
  6. Create products to assist countries to monitor, assess, and interpret analysis on emergency response and preparedness, food security, livelihoods and markets, and food systems.
  7. Support the implementation of a Regional GIS plan, including 72 hour assessments and Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) compilation in the Pacific, ensuring latest datasets are available on portals and that food security monitoring systems integrate such products.
  8. Engage with national and regional partners to improve approaches related to GIS spatial data management, food systems, food security, livelihoods and market assessments and analysis.
  9. Support surge capacity during large scale emergencies in the Asia/ Pacific, if required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Statistics, Social Sciences, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), environmental management or a related subject.
  • At least 4 (four) years of professional experience for candidates with Bachelor Degree, or 2 (two) years with Master Degree, progressive responsibility in data analysis or food security analysis.

Experience:

  • Experience with interpreting data, generating knowledge products and reports, and carrying out analysis.
  • Experience with carrying out trainings and supporting capacity strengthening efforts as part of strategic plans.
  • Willingness to travel frequently, including undertaking field visits to remote places.
  • Experience with Python, R, STATA/SPSS, Tableau, and other data visualization and statistical analysis software packages is desirable.

Language: Fluency and accuracy in both oral and written communication in English.
