This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

The Programme Policy Officer will play a key role in designing project activities and supporting implementation in the area of climate resilience for food and nutrition security. The UN Volunteer will support efforts to develop and launch food security and climate risk management, including cash/food for assets activities for improved access to water, restoration of degraded lands, and reforestation. The UNV will report to the Resilience Activity Manager and work in close coordination with Country and Sub-Office colleagues. Technical coordination and collaboration will be undertaken with climate and resilience experts in the Regional Bureau and Headquarters.

Under the direct supervision of Programme Policy Officer - Head of Smallholder Farmers and Resilience Unit, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1.Contribute to the development of the country strategy for integrated climate resilience in coordination with relevant CO teams and in coordination with technical leads at RB and HQ level.

2.Support the existing efforts in providing technical assistance to national government and related national institutions on climate change, DRR and resilience.

3.Provide strategic support and guidance to develop partnerships with donors and various stakeholders in climate resilience and liaise with partners to identify opportunities for joint initiatives/fundraising opportunities.

4.Support CO management in forging strategic partnerships with government, UN agencies and bilateral donors.

5.Support fundraising efforts, through initiating and reviewing existing funding proposals and concept notes and supporting national and/or local context assessments needed for planning the expansion of project activities.

6.Provide regular project implementation guidance and support to Sub-Office teams; draft progress reports, corporate and donor reports as required, including support on project budget management.

7.Support design and rollout of trainings in climate resilience to benefit CO and sub-office staff

8.Support with documenting knowledge, best practices and lessons learned for ongoing resilience building projects.

9.Facilitate, as needed, and provide technical support to learning events at country, regional, and global level, including organizing and facilitating trainings, workshops, and other relevant events.

10.Any other tasks as required.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: •Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); •Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. •Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities. •Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. •Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. •Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

resilience related interventions and smallholder farmer support, with focus on asset creation, landscape rehabilitation, water and soil conservation and climate smart agriculture.
•Proficiency in MS Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). •Strong qualitative and quantitative analysis skillsets are essential. •Collaborative team player, action management, innovation, partnership, and client orientation are critical characteristics for the profile.

Dar es Salaam is situated on the coast, overlooking the Indian Ocean. It is dynamic and multicultural city with a mix of religions. There is a wide range of facilities available, including shopping centers, movies theatres, restaurants and many new developments planned.
