Overview

Support implementation of the Spotlight Initiative to prevent violence against children.

You have:

  • A university degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, social science, human rights, psychology, or another relevant field.
  • At least 2 years of proven experience in coordination of gender-based violence programmes involving various stakeholders is required.
  • Sound experience in facilitation of multi-stakeholder meetings and/or workshops is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordination between different entities, such as UN, INGO and Government.
  • Work experience in a developing country is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with UN is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment is considered an asset.
  • Professional expertise in gender equality with a special focus on protection, prevention and ending VAWG/HP is required.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills are required.
  • Strong communication and teamwork competencies are required.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal skills, is required.

Contract

This is a P-2 contract. This kind of contract is known as Professional and Director staff. It is normally internationally recruited only. It's a staff contract. It usually requires 2 years of experience, depending on education.

Salary

The salary for this job should be between 80,956 USD and 109,958 USD.

UNICEF Malawi Country Programme (2019-2023) is aligned with the Government of Malawi’s Growth and Development Strategy (MDGS III) and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). The programme supports the Government of Malawi to meet its commitment to respect, protect and fulfil children’s rights in line with international conventions and standards. The country programme is guided by the principles of children’s rights, equity, gender equality, inclusion and resilience, and supports evidence-based, integrative and innovative programming. The vision is that ‘all girls and boys in Malawi, especially the most disadvantaged and deprived, realize their rights’. The programme focuses on: early childhood (parenting, high-impact social services, early stimulation and learning), middle childhood and adolescence (learning, multi-sectoral services, active citizenship), communities (decentralized services and systems, community ownership, social norms), programme effectiveness (monitoring, evaluation, HACT, Innovation, Social Protection and Social Policy and External Communication. The programme is based on ‘leaving no child behind’, realizing ‘rights for all children in Malawi’.

The Child Protection section partners with the Government of Malawi, UN agencies, Civil Society organisations and communities to prevent all forms of violence against children and support the most vulnerable with mental health and psychosocial support and access to justice. In this role as Programme Officer (Spotlight Initiative), you will support the implementation of the Spotlight Initiative (SI) and the coordination of the cross-sectoral response from UNICEF.

The Malawi Country Office offers an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for you to join our dynamic Child Protection team where you will be responsible for the coordination, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of the UNICEF component under the Spotlight Initiative. The overall purpose of the job is to support national efforts led by the Ministry of Gender Social Welfare to prevent and respond to violence against children.

As Programme Officer (Spotlight Initiative), you will report to and be under the overall guidance and supervision of the Chief of Child Protection. You will furthermore function in a matrix management structure, where there will be a matrixed reporting line where you will provide technical support to Education and Adolescents Section under the matrixed supervision of the Chief of Education and Adolescents Section.
