Overview

Deliver activities and outputs in peacebuilding data, evidence, and capacity building.

You have:

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in conflict and peace studies, political science, international relations, or related fields.
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, the humanitarian-development-peace nexus or related areas.
Experience managing complex projects, ideally related to data and evidence, technology or innovation.
Experience building successful partnerships with a range of stakeholders (UN, civil society, academia).
Knowledge of different tools and approaches for measuring, monitoring and/or evaluating the results and impact of projects, ideally in peacebuilding contexts.
Proficiency in Excel and basic knowledge of foundational concepts in data manipulation and analysis.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the Peacebuilding Impact Hub, within the UN Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) of DPPA-DPO. The Peacebuilding Impact Hub was founded in 2023 and aims to foster collaboration between the UN, civil society, local peacebuilders, Governments, academia and other partners to generate evidence, build shared learning and strengthen how peacebuilding impact is measured and communicated. By advancing this shared learning, the Hub seeks to contribute to more effective peacebuilding interventions and more strategic, impactful investments. The Individual Contractor works under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Officer/Team Leader and overall supervision of the Director and Deputy Head of PBSO/DPPA. The Individual Contractor provides support across the Impact Hub’s workstreams, with a focus on data, evidence, convening and capacity building. The role involves project management and coordination responsibilities, as well as substantive contributions related to peacebuilding, impact measurement and data. 1. Data - Lead the Hub’s ‘Peacebuilding Data Platform’ initiative including design, strategic planning, project management, internal coordination and external engagement. - Liaise with technical counterparts (data analysts, Office of ICT) to define functional requirements, ensure data is collated and prepared, and oversee the technical development of Version 1.0 of the Data Platform. - Conduct consultations with target audiences and user testing, both within and outside the UN. - Oversee additional activities related to the Platform’s development and launch. 2. Evidence - Coordinate evidence generation activities such as ‘Impact Spotlight’ exercises, liaising with Headquarters teams, country-based partners and research organizations. - Provide substantive inputs during the design and implementation of evidence generation activities – for example, developing Terms of Reference for research partners or reviewing research reports. - Contribute to the development of knowledge products (e.g. guidance, toolkits, training programmes) that support better measurement and communication of the impact of peacebuilding. - Contribute to research and policy development on peacebuilding, impact, and related areas. 3. Convening and capacity building - Develop and maintain partnerships with civil society organizations (CSOs), United Nations entities, academic institutions and other stakeholders to strengthen the global community of practice on peacebuilding impact measurement. - Design and coordinate outreach activities including training sessions, workshops, donor briefings and consultations. 4. Other - Contribute to office-wide priorities such as the annual CSO-UN Dialogue and Peacebuilding Week. - Prepare written outputs such as background papers, speeches, inputs to reports and studies. - Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent), preferably in conflict and peace studies, political science, international relations, or related fields. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, the humanitarian-development-peace nexus or related areas is required. Experience managing complex projects, ideally related to data and evidence, technology or innovation, is required. Experience building successful partnerships with a range of stakeholders (UN, civil society, academia) is required. Knowledge of different tools and approaches for measuring, monitoring and/or evaluating the results and impact of projects, ideally in peacebuilding contexts, is required. Experience managing, implementing or evaluating peacebuilding programmes at a country/field level is desirable. Proficiency in Excel and basic knowledge of foundational concepts in data manipulation and analysis are desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
