The Republic of Guinea has significant natural resources including a substantial network of river basins and a large biodiversity but faces climatic hazards that threaten greatly food security. To better respond to and anticipate needs of the local population in the face of current and future climatic hazards, Response Analysis for Climate Adaptation establishes an assessment of future projections of impacts climate change on food and nutrition security, and on vulnerability indicators.

Based on these results, recommendations for the integration of climate adaptation into the programming of the World Food Program (WFP) have been formulated for four livelihood zones (ZME), prioritized from the four natural regions with varied climatic profiles of Guinea: the zone (1) littoral and piedmont in Maritime Guinea (or Lower Guinea), the zone (2) northeast and savannah in Upper Guinea, the zone (3) forest and pre-forest in Guinea Forest, and the central and northern plateau zone (4) in Middle Guinea.

The Republic of Guinea has many policies and national development strategies that integrate adaptation climate change in their provisions but would benefit from strategies for social protection in order to establish a more explicit link between the climate change and food security in the activities. For To do so, the country would require the support of development partners to formulation of social protection and food security strategies inclusive of adaptation to climate change.

WFP operations in the region respond to conflict-driven hunger and provide integrated Resilience, gender and nutrition sensitive packages to improve food security and nutrition; build livelihoods, restore eco-systems where climatic factors are the drivers of need; support the creation of income generating opportunities; build social cohesion and support governments to reach sustainable development, which eventually has a peace and stability dividend.

Under the direct supervision of Head of Programme , the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Participate in analysis of Country Strategic Plans for contributions to mitigation of the negative effects of climate change and accelerations of adaptation efforts, in-cluding issues of climate and environmental security. • Elaborate concept notes and proposals to access financing that will allow for mul-ti-year climate adaptation and resilience programming. • Support partnership building with agencies, NGOs, government and the private sector to push forward the climate adaptation agenda. • Ensure communications both internal and external on food systems and climate change. • Ensure in stakeholder mapping of partners in climate adaptation and climate secu-rity. • Coordinate the team in providing frontline technical expertise in the following are-as: linking climate adaptation and resilience efforts, climate risk management, sus-tainable natural resource management, including soil, energy and water access to energy, access to water, and food system strengthening. • Support in enhancing WFP projects on the need to increase agricultural productivi-ty while identifying opportunities to sustainably build resilience of national agricul-tural systems with the need to adapt to climate change. • Provide in-depth technical guidance and mentoring in climate-smart agriculture, nature-based solutions, natural resources management. • Organize webinars and Communities of Practice on topics related to climate adap-tation in the region. • Participate in the collection of good practices in this area and share it with all ac-tors in the field. • Lead and coordinate the Resilience Initiative within the Guinea Country Office. • To promote community ownership and synergy of the different activities that are part of the integrated Resilience package. • Supporting advocacy and anchoring efforts of the Resilience Initiative, both at na-tional and local levels. Mobilizing a multitude of institutional actors, the Resilience Initiative requires the establishment of governance and coordination mechanisms within which the Government can fully assume its role of guidance and supervi-sion. • Ensure cross-cutting budgetary monitoring of the resilience initiative, in close co-ordination with the Activity Managers. • Strengthen the mechanisms for monitoring, evaluating the results achieved and documenting good practice in resilience programming, in conjunction with the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit and the Office Communication Officer. • Preparing and compiling the Programme Unit's contributions to the development of donor proposals and reports, to facilitate the work of the Donor Relations Unit. The Resilience Officer will also monitor donor commitments to ensure compliance with budget and implementation. • Contribute to the generation of evidence for the Resilience Package. To do this, the Resilience Officer will work closely with the Analysis Unit and programme col-leagues to produce publications that demonstrate the positive results of the pro-gramme. A focus on evidence is critical for this role to facilitate the production of PowerPoint, reports, Fact Sheets, blogs, etc. on the success of the package. • Other tasks as required

• Specific knowledge of climate change adaptation, sustainability, environmental or Resilience. • Exposure and experience in the coordination of hydraulic works and infrastruc-ture, agriculture and livestock, or watershed management. • Experience in natural Resource Management, International Development, Social Protection and planning, participatory approaches, and community-led change projects; food security, nutrition programmes and safety nets desirable. • Demonstrates ability to build and sustain effective collaborative relationships with appropriate stakeholders and contacts in area of expertise to raise the profile of WFP, build relationships and further organisational aims. • Experience in supporting country level planning and project development pro-cesses. Experience with broader food security analysis, policy, disaster risk reduc-tion or related area will be an asset. • Proven ability to conceptualize, develop, plan and manage programmes, leader-ship and teamwork abilities, good analytical, negotiation, communication and ad-vocacy skills. • Demonstrated experience working in developing countries, with a special focus on climate/environment or Resilience area. • Strong interpersonal and coordination skills, ability to work in a team and to com-municate clearly and diplomatically with a wide range of stakeholders from di-verse backgrounds • Experience in establishing contacts and liaising with partner organizations.

Guinea is located in West Africa and its capital is Conakry, which is the largest city and the main center of financial and economic activities with a high population density.

Climate: Guinea has most of the time a tropical monsoon climate, and a rainy season followed by a dry season. The dry season is influenced by the harmattan. The average temperature is 29°C to 30°C; The rainy season is from June to October.

Religion: About 85% of the population is Muslim. Other religions practiced in the country are Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and others.

Security: Guinea is a generally safe country to visit, but there are persistent socio-political moments and cases of crime, especially in Conakry. It is wise not to travel at night since armed robbery has increased in the south. Please refer to the security guidelines provided by the UNDSS Office.

Health: There is currently no epidemic in the country. However, taking all priority vaccines is required.

Population: The population of Guinea is approximately 12,093,349. The population of Guinea contains around 24 different ethnic groups, with the Fulani constituting 40% of the population. Other ethnic groups include Mandinka, Soussou, Kissi, Kpelle and non-African groups.

Currency: the local currency is the Guinea Franc (GNF). 1USD = 8508,78 GNF (Un April 2023 rate).
