This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Justice for children expert (based in Niamey), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

A****ssis****t in the Development and implementation of a National work plan for Burkina Faso on justice for children (under the specific output on children of the UNODC Regional Programme for West Africa

2021-2025):

Liaise and promote coordination/collaboration with other UNODC projects and divisions, UN

organizations, relevant national counterparts, partners and stakeholders;

Ensure understanding of national context, exchange of regular information between UNODC HQ/Expert, ROSEN and national counterparts in relation to the design and implementation of UNODC's activities in such a framework,

Participate into meetings, collect data information, analyze and provide substantive input to the work plan activities;

Preparation of a mapping of activities already in the pipeline or carried out in Burkina Faso on Children recruited and exploited by terrorist and violent extremist groups, whether as child victims and witnesses, and as child alleged offenders.

Prepare background documentation, terms of reference, concept notes as requested

A****ssis****t in the implementation of the justice for children work plan in Burkina Faso and support related regional activities:

Ensure administrative support and information to partners and participants ;

Provide for follow up activities including minutes, reports, inputs to publications, etc.;

Prepare various written outputs, talking points, analysis, meeting minutes, reports

Furthermore, UN Youth Volunteers are required to:

Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);

Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;

Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;

Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV

publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Youth Volunteers;

Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Educational additional comments

Advanced university degree in the field of law, political or social sciences, public

administration or equivalent academic training/education from a recognized university

Experience remark

Two years of relevant, and progressively responsible, work experience in international affairs in the areas of programme development, monitoring and evaluation, and communications, preferably in the area of justice for children, child protection, criminal justice, children recruited or used by armed forces or terrorist groups

Working experience (including internship) with the United Nations system – in particular UNODC is a distinct advantage.

Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Prior experience in West Africa is also a distinct advantage.
