This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (SDG Fund Social Protection) P2, the UN Volunteer will ensure that Pogrammes (including Joint SDG Fund, MPTFs, other transversal programmes i.e. PEP+) annual work plan and budget are well articulated; progress is tracked, monitored and documented; and that both internal and external partners are properly engaged, through active communication and outreach:

  • Support to the timely monitor of activities, record changes of work plans with the participation of relevant partners; and provide data to facilitate planning;
  • Support with the systematically monitoring of data for key components and indicators, ensuring all information is collected, analysed and made available to Programme Coordinator;
  • Support with the coordination of the relevant programmes and other initiatives in aspects related to information management: development of meeting minutes, action points and background documents for meetings;
  • Assist with the monitoring of fund allocations, commitments and disbursements of programme funds, making sure that financial reporting and data is accurate.
  • Produce and maintain relevant information products, including progress updates, reports, databases, basic and thematic maps; and support the preparation of periodic reports on activities as required;
  • Support with data and information for the development of concept notes, project proposals and programme briefs ensuring quality and functionality.
  • Support partners in the development and provide preliminary review of communication materials on violence against children, particularly related to positive discipline and anti-bullying
  • Assist in editing/re-writing human interest stories and blogs contributed by non-communication staff.
  • Assist in the development of infographic and other communication materials
  • Assist on the organization of partner events, launches, and bilateral meetings though logistics support and the development of background documentation

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Type of degree: Social Sciences, Economics, Demography, Statistics, Socio-economic Research, Public Administration, International Relations or a related technical field is desirable.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

Two years of relevant professional work experience at the national and/or international levels in programme/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation or administration.

This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, therefore only nationals of Sao Tome & Principe and legal residents in Sao Tome & Principe with the status of refugee or with the status of being stateless are eligible to apply.
