You have:

Contract

UNICEF South Africa is committed to supporting the Government of South Africa in creating a nurturing environment wherein children are loved, cared for and protected from violence, exploitation and exclusion. To this end, through the new Country Programme of Cooperation July 2020 - June 2025, UNICEF South Africa will contribute to the implementation of the 2019-2023 South Africa National Strategic Plan to End Gender Based Violence (GBV), Femicide and Violence Against Children, which is aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) outcomes 16.2, 5.3 and 4.4, Vision 2030 and the five-year implementation plan of the National Development Plan (NDP) and to the National Plan of Action for Children (NPAC) 2019-2023.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Child Protection Specialist or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV will provide support towards advocacy, social behaviour change related to Violence Against Children (VAC) under UNICEF South Africa’s Country Programme Document output 4.1. Violence Against Children is a significant cause of personal suffering, long-term ill health, poor psychological adjustment, and a range of social difficulties, some of which are intergenerational. Debilitating childhood poverty and inequality weaken government’s return on investment into programmes promoting the development of children. Even if children’s basic material needs are partially met through existing social assistance grants, the lack of consistent and nurturing care and exposure violence impedes developmental progress. The duties will include:

  1. Support to programme development and planning • Provide technical and operational support throughout all stages of programming processes by executing and administering a variety of technical, programme, operational, and administrative transactions; • Provide support by preparing related materials and documentations, and complying with organizational processes and management systems, to support programme planning, results based planning (RBM) and monitoring and evaluating of results; • Initiate partnerships with competent Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and formalization of partnership in line with UNICEF business procedures; • Support the development of Partnership Documents (Programme Corporate Agreements, Programme Document, Detailed budget, Results Framework and Workplan);
    • Prepare required programme documentations, materials and data to facilitate the programme review and approval process.

  2. Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results • Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and partners to discuss implementation issues; • Provide solutions, recommendations and/or to alert appropriate officials and stakeholders for higher-level interventions and/or decisions; • Keep records of reports and assessments for easy reference and/or to capture and institutionalize lessons learned; • Organize and attend meetings with government and other relevant partners. producing reports after meetings;
    • Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises, programme reviews and annual sectoral reviews with government and other counterparts to assess programmes/projects, and to report on required action/interventions at the higher level of programme management; • Through the regular programmatic/ field visits, monitor and report on the use of sectoral programme resources (financial, administrative and other assets); • Verifying compliance with approved allocations, organizational rules, regulations, procedures and donor commitments, standards of accountability and integrity; • Report on critical issues and findings to ensure timely resolution by management and stakeholders; • Follow up on unresolved issues to ensure resolution; • Contribute to the regular donor reporting by compiling data and achieved results from partners.

  3. Technical and operational support to programme implementation • Write letters and concept notes / documents (CN) to initiate interventions relating to the field; • Develop Terms of Reference (TORs) and reports as required around Violence Against Children (VAC) area.

    1. Networking and partnership building • Build and sustain close working partnerships with government counterparts and national stakeholders through active information and knowledge sharing; • Facilitate programme implementation and build capacity of stakeholders to achieve and sustain results on child protection; • Attend internal and external meetings as required, in order to keep abreast of the latest Violence Against Boys, Girls and Women agenda, including Online VAC.

    2. General • Consolidating information and interventions and leading on VAC prevention and response as advised by the supervisor; • Provide inputs to documents and policy review processes and support and participate in organizing high-level advocacy initiatives in the section; • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor

It is one of the country’s two capital cities serving as the executive (administrative) and de facto national capital. It offers excellent living conditions with various types of world-class available facilities. Housing is readily available, and rents can be negotiated. Like in other big cities with significant crime rates, caution must be exercised always. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.

UNVs receive the below entitlements: • A monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of ZAR 17618.24; • A once of $400 entry lump sum; • Medical and Annual leave; • Comprehensive insurance; • Access to all the learning platforms; • A once of exit lumpsum of ZAR 17618.24 at the end of your assignment.
