Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) in New York, in the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General.

In its Resolution A/RES/72/279, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the transformation of the Development Operations Coordination Office (DOCO) as a stand-alone coordination office within the United Nations Secretariat, namely the Development Coordination Office (DCO). DCO now assumes managerial and oversight functions of the Resident Coordinator System under the collective ownership of the members of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG). The incumbent reports to the Chief of Staff, DCO.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Programme Management Officer (Special Assistant) will be responsible for the following duties: •Supports the ASG for Development Coordination in his daily work through oversight of the ASG’s calendar, liaison with internal and external partners and support to key decision-making for a within DCO; •Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.; •Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, •Participates in field missions, including preparing the ASGs agenda, drafting mission summaries, etc. •Supports in tracking the strategic deliverables of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) in support of the ASG. •Supports system-wide reporting and follow-up to QCPR-related mandates related to UNDCO and the UNSDG, as well as, support to DCOs intergovernmental engagements. •Jointly with the Senior Advisor for the UNSDG, Supports quality assurance for all UNSDG deliverables. •Collaborates with RC System Business Management Branch to ensure that the UNSDG's information management systems include the indicators required for reporting purposes, and participates in validation processes. •Leads on development and implementation of appropriate monitoring and evaluation framework for the RC System. •Keeps abreast of latest emerging trends and innovative approaches to RC System monitoring. •Performs other related duties as required.

Education Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development. related programme management is required. A minimum of two years of experience working in an Executive Office/Front Office or equivalent required. Experience in performing the duties of a special assistant is desirable. Experience in working with a multicultural team at country, regional and global levels is desirable. Experience in the United Nations system or a comparable international organization is desirable. Experience at the headquarters of a development cooperation organization is desirable. Experience working for an entity that is a member of the UN Sustainable Development Group is desirable. Experience in development planning and policy formulation is desirable. Experience with inter-agency or inter organizational collaboration in the development sector is desirable. Field experience in development cooperation is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
