Org. Setting and Reporting

Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 160 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. Under the supervision of the Head of External Relations Unit and the Chief of the Intergovernmental Processes, Interagency Cooperation and Partnerships Branch, the incumbent contributes to implementation of the UNDRR resources mobilization strategy.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities: • Develops and implements fundraising and partnerships strategies targeting foundations, private sector entities, and international financial institutions (IFI) to support UNDRR programme objectives. Conducts research and analysis and donor mapping to identify potential funding sources and partnership opportunities. • Cultivates and maintains relationships with philanthropic foundations and corporate partners to build partnerships and secure financial contributions; facilitates the development of funding agreements. • Prepares tailored proposals, concept notes, and presentations for private sector and foundation donors, aligning with their strategic interests and Corporate Social Responsibility priorities; ensures effective follow-up and ensures timely and quality reporting to donors under his/her portfolio. • Ensures strategic alignment between UNDRR’s work programme and fundraising initiatives. Identifies synergies with donor priorities, including foundations, private sector organizations, and international financial institutions, to enhance resources mobilization and impact. • Works with the Resource Management and Planning Section to monitor implementation of the UNDRR Resource Mobilization Strategy and related plans of action; ensures ongoing analysis of resource mobilization needs in alignment with the Strategic Framework and Work Programme; • Reports to the Head of Unit, on progress in implementing the Resource Mobilization Strategy at his/her level and on meeting the funding targets under his/her portfolio; stays abreast of latest donor and funding trends within his/her portfolio; promptly flags external and internal factors influencing results and proposes corrective actions; prepares substantive briefings for the Senior Leadership of UNDRR as appropriate. • Upon request, represents UNDRR at inter-agency meetings, seminars, etc. on resource mobilization and related partnership initiatives/issues; • Works with the Team Assistant to collect and analyze disaster risk reduction related data in fundraising area to identify trends or patterns and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Performs additional duties as required.
