This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the IFAD Representative or his/her designated mandated representative(s), and in close collaboration with all programme sections, the UN Volunteer Project Management Officer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist the IFAD Country Office (ICO) in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Burundi portfolio;
  • Assist the ICO in the proper management of Service Level Agreement and Host Country Agreement at Country Office level;
  • Provide technical support to the overall programme management, grants management, budget, work planning, including the development, day-to-day operation, monitoring and evaluation of work plans;
  • Support the organization and participate in projects’ implementation support and supervision and completion missions, focusing on programme management, Knowledge Management and on any other cross-cutting element;
  • Contribute to the design of PRODEFI III.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monitoring and progress reports, briefings, proposals, reports, communications and advocacy documents required for strategic decision making;
  • Contribute to the COSOP 2016-2021 review process and the definition of a new COSOP;
  • Contribute to the implementation of the country program approach;
  • Lead the knowledge agenda of the country programme in country and contribute to the Hub KM agenda;
  • Liaise with relevant personnel and stakeholders in IFAD HQ and in country to respond to country and corporate demands
  • Provide inputs on progress of UNDAF’s implementation and monitoring;
  • Attend meetings as requested by the Country Director and provide IFAD with relevant information;
  • Performs other required duties as requested by the Country Director.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UNV mandate within their assignment and promote volunteerism through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate part of their time to the following suggested activities:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant publications, developing networks with volunteering organizations and taking an active part in UNV activities (for example, in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Provide annual and end-of-assignment reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever possible.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Required Degree Level: Master's degree
    • Master's degree or equivalent in management, administration, planning, economics, social development, social sciences or international relations, from a recognized and accredited academic institution is required, or:
    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;

Required experience:

Experience remark:

  • Experience and knowledge of Agriculture development
  • Formal training/certification in project management, is desirable.

Language skills:

  • French(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
