IOC/UNESCO is tasked to coordinate the implementation of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). The [IOC Sub-Commission for Western Pacific (WESTPAC)](https://www.ioc-westpac.org/) is the regional subsidiary body of IOC for the Western Pacific and its adjacent areas, aiming to assist Member States in achieving the sustainable development of their marine and coastal resources, through the development, coordination and implementation of international programmes on marine research, sustained ocean observations and services, hazard mitigation, and capacity development. The Sub-Commission has been co-designing, and co-implementing its various programmes and activities, with Member States to address the common ocean priorities of the region, namely: ocean and climate; marine biodiversity, seafood safety and security; and ocean ecosystem health. Meanwhile, WESTPAC also assist the IOC to coordinate regional engagement in the UN Ocean Decade. Long Description ---------------- **Main tasks and assignments** The Sub-Commission is seeking an Intern to support the programme development and implementation, and organization of various meetings, workshops and conferences. - Assist in the coordination, development and implementation of WESTPAC projects and activities; - Assist in the organization of relevant meetings, workshops, and conferences; - Assist and support the regional activities for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030); - Undertake other relevant tasks assigned. Long Description ---------------- **Learning opportunities during the course of the internship** Following the completion of this internship, it is expected that the incumbent will acquire: - A good knowledge about WESTPAC; - A good knowledge about how WESTPAC promotes marine cooperation in the region; - A good knowledge about ocean, ocean science development and cooperation, and the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030); - Practical experience in international programme development; - skills for planning, and organizing international events; - Statues of marine science cooperation among countries in the region.
