Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organizations.

New York Service Cluster (NYSC) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management.

Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP). It provides Services to partners' programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.

UNOPS has signed an agreement with the United Nations to implement the project activities.

Our UN partner has requested the assistance of UNOPS in providing various ICT services. UNOPS has entered into a service-oriented agreement with the UN ICT partner to deliver support in various ICT domains. The objective of this function is to support our partner in executing the activities outlined in this TOR.

The intern will carry out his/her tasks at Brindisi, Italy.

The incumbent of this position will be an intern of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

Functional Responsibilities

To achieve its goals and increased demand, UNOPS Programme Office is looking for a Programme Management Intern. The UNOPS Programme Office provides administrative support to all personnel under the programme. The team lacks a technical capacity to streamline substantive reporting and looking for an intern to assist with that and other admin support activities for a limited time.

Under the direct supervision of the ICT Associate, the selected candidate will be responsible for supporting tasks necessary for the successful delivery of activities for the UNOPS Programme Support team. The intern will execute the following duties:

● Assist in the development and enhancement of reporting tool.

● Assist with content development and the delivery of communications materials.

● Support research on innovation and related topics to inform content development.

● Work with the team to prepare topics for asynchronous discussion that are relevant and engaging for the members of the Group.

● Perform any other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Monitoring and Progress Controls

In coordination with the UN Programme Office, the Programme Management Intern will assist in administration and reporting of programme deliverables and assure the timely deliverables of the agreed outputs. The Programme Management Intern is expected to exercise flexibility in the internship regarding the potential of dynamically adapting working arrangements so that outputs can be delivered.

● This position is based in Brindisi, Italy.

● Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one-time travel lumpsum. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

● Applicants must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program or be pursuing an advanced university degree, such as a Masters, or be a recent graduate from such studies (within the last 3 years)

● To be eligible for this particular internship, the candidate must preferably have studied or be studying towards a university degree in Computer Science, Engineering or another related discipline.

Experience:

● Interest in technology or engineering is a strong advantage.

● Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team is a strong advantage.

● Data analysis, visualization skills and proficiency of related software applications (e.g. Power BI) are a strong advantage.

● Organizational and coordination skills are an asset.

Language

● Fluency in English (write, read, speak) is required.

● Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an asset.

Other Requirements:

● While no professional experience is required for an internship, experience in the field of technology and basic administration is an asset.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
