Overview

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Background and Objective This IC is located within the Strategy, Planning, Accountability, Results and Knowledge Section (SPARK) at ESCWA. The Strategy, Planning, Accountability, Results, Knowledge (SPARK) team strives to support ESCWA in its drive to become a place of choice and centre of excellence in knowledge and well informed solutions. The SPARK team provides advice to ESCWA's Senior Management in developing strategies and plans under which people, process and technologies are well aligned; and strategic, operational and support functions work in a complementary way to attain measurable results. 2. Duties and Responsibilities • Undertakes research and analysis related to the work of SPARK. • Contributes to the preparation of background notes, analysis, reports and proposals for activities related to SPARK in both English and Arabic. • Provides logistical and substantive backstopping to preparing background documents, briefs, and presentations, as well as workshop reports. • Takes thorough notes during meetings and discussions in the focus group, consultation meetings and interviews. • Assists with other tasks as required.

Qualifications/special skills

A Bachelor degree in political science, social sciences, business, law, development issues, economics, or other related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. No previous work experience is required

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Additional Information

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
