The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This post is in UNEP / Reginal Office for West Asia in Beirut - Lebanon

This UNV assignment is part of UNEP’s project on establishing a functional environmental information system for Iraq. This project is to enhance Iraq’s capacities and readiness to meet its commitments under a set of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs). This system will be the main source of information relating to the current and evolving status of the environment of Iraq.

Ultimately, enhancing capacities of Iraq for monitoring and reporting on Multilateral Environmental Agreements through a well-integrated and functional environment information system.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Programme Management Officer, Science-Policy Sub-programme or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Programme Management Associate will:

• Contribute to the overall facilitation and coordination of the implementation of the Environment Information System project implementation. • Providing technical support to the implementing partners with the system implementation, testing, and data validation. • Support in the drafting of project reporting and required documentation. • Contribute to the organization and technical preparation of meetings, webinars, etc. This would include preparation of materials, info notes, and preparing meeting reports. • Research, analyse and present information gathered from diverse sources on information systems, and environmental indicators. • Perform other duties as required, related to the implementation of the project Iraq, such as conducting communication activities and social media. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

The duration of your assignment is indicated above with the possibility of extension subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.

Travel to duty station (if applicable) and a Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event the duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance (USD1,238) is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) on a monthly basis will be provided.
