You have:

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in gender equality-related issues.
  • Work or research experience in designing or implementing monitoring systems and program evaluation processes.
  • Specialized courses in gender, feminism, and women’s empowerment are desirable.
  • Postgraduate training in international development, human rights, international cooperation, gender, or related fields will be an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work logically and accurately with attention to detail.
  • Initiative, sound judgment, and proven ability to work harmoniously with personnel from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.

Contract

The main objectives of the program management area are: To provide technical assistance and advice in the planning, execution and monitoring of all programs and projects, ensuring that programs are executed on time, within budget and in accordance with our corporate policies and guidelines. Work to improve and apply UN Women's project and program management policies, enhancing its corporate capacities and providing support to country offices and NRAs in the implementation of non-core projects and programs. The objective is to ensure that UN Women has the necessary project management policies, capacities and tools in place to achieve the desired gender equality and women's empowerment results. Learning objectives: • Enhance understanding of UN Women’s work and the UN system; •Improve knowledge on key topics related to UN Women’s normative mandate, frameworks, intergovernmental processes, and civil society; •Gain work experience and knowledge in program and project management from a gender perspective; •Acquire tools for gender mainstreaming in program implementation processes; •Gain insight into the different strategies in UN Women’s programmatic interventions; •Experience a dynamic, international, and intercultural work environment with the possibility of engaging with other work areas of the Agency; •Be part of a diverse team with strong learning opportunities.

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Regional Director, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: •Supporting the implementation, review, and monitoring of regional projects; •Applying qualitative and quantitative methodologies to collect, organize, and analyze data relevant to UN Women’s monitoring systems; •Supporting initiatives related to the implementation, reporting, and/or monitoring of State commitments under CEDAW, CSW, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the 2030 Agenda, and SDGs, among others; •Assist in drafting various substantive documents such as reports, concept notes, and terms of reference; •Contribute to and provide technical support in the formulation of programmatic proposals; •Supporting coordination with focal points on monitoring and program management in country offices, as well as with different headquarters divisions involved in monitoring and program management; •Supporting administrative processes related to the area; •Contributing to knowledge production and management, information dissemination, best practices, and lessons learned relevant to monitoring and program management; •Providing other assistance as needed within the scope of the Regional Office’s Programme Area.

Panama has truly amazing scenery with lush vegetation, miles of coastline, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, dense jungles and a seemingly endless variety of plants and animals.

Security Panama is a family duty station and considered to be a safe place to live. Main threat is common crime, although Panama has a lower crime rate than many other countries in the region. Reportedly, the high-crime areas in the Panama City are San Miguelito, Rio Abajo, El Chorrillo, Curundu, Veracruz Beach, Panama Viejo, and Tocumen. The city of Colon has a significantly higher crime rate than Panama City. Media have also reported the expansion of gang violence to provincial towns such as Chorrera and Arraiján. Police checkpoints are common, mainly on weekends in and around the main cities. Politically motivated violence is rare but protests against the administration have on a few occasions turned violent, prompting the immediate deployment of riot police and the use of tear gas. Several smaller earthquakes – ranging from levels 4-5.2 (Richter) have been registered in the western province of Chiriquí, without causing damage.
