This post is in the Secretariat for the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and for the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (Ozone Secretariat) at the Nairobi duty station.

UNV will contribute to the partnership projects of the Secretariat in the area of energy efficiency and policies, sustainable cold chains under the Rome Declaration of the Montreal Protocol and cooling and climate action. The project results will contribute to enhancing the capacity of the Ozone Secretariat in dealing with climate, energy efficiency, cooling and policy issues, help enhance collaboration with partners and support parties’ efforts in implementing the Montreal Protocol. The outputs of the projects are a set of online tools that support policy making and project implementation by parties and other relevant stakeholders in the area of energy efficiency, sustainable cold chain and other climate action, as well as awareness materials on these subject matters.

· Coordinate the development of a web-based policy options toolkit for promotion of energy efficiency in the refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump (or also referred to as cooling) sector, which will be part of an implementation toolkit for sustainable cooling to be developed in coordination with a number of partners. The specific tasks will include the development of the layout of the toolkit and corresponding narrative, collection of existing resources and tools, coordination with partners for the inclusion of their resources and tools into the toolkit, collection and development of case studies, among others.

· Coordinate the expansion of the existing online exhibition on sustainable cold chains into an atlas of sustainable cold chain solutions with inclusion of new entries in consultation with partners (UNFAO and UNEP Cooling Coalition), validation of entries with the partners or proponents of sustainable cold chain solutions, coordination of the expanded layout with the Ozone Secretariat’s web designer among other tasks.

· Monitor the development of the discussions under the UNFCCC regime and identify issues of importance for the Montreal Protocol and Secretariat, prepare issue papers for the attention of the Secretariat staff.

· Develop technical news for the website on a variety of subject matters (energy efficiency, climate, cold chains, use of substances controlled by the Montreal Protocol, and other topics related to the implementation of the Montreal protocol and its Kigali Amendment.

The Republic of Kenya is an equatorial nation on the coast of East Africa, neighboring Somalia, Ethi-opia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Indian Ocean. Kenya has two levels of Government; Na-tional Government and 47 sub-national Governments called Counties. Counties are further divided into sub-counties. Kenya is a multi-party state with Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. Kenya’s population of more than 40 million is growing at an annual rate of 2.2%. The country’s GNP per capita estimated at purchasing power parity (PPP) is $975, and the GNP is growing at an average rate of 0.1% annually. More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tubers.” (FAO). Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up-country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP. The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical climate.
