Org. Setting and Reporting

This temporary position is in the United Nations Development Coordination Office (DCO), in the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General (OASG). The incumbent reports to the Deputy Director of DCO. In its Resolution A/RES/72/279, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the transformation of the Development) as a stand-alone coordination office within the United Nations Secretariat, namely the Development Coordination Office (DCO). DCO now assumes managerial and oversight functions of the resident coordinator system under the collective ownership of the members of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG).

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: • Manages the schedule and travel of the Deputy Director of DCO. • Coordinates the tasking cycle between supervisor and senior staff for the preparation, timely submission and quality assurances of the briefing materials of the Deputy Director; brings sensitive and urgent matters to the attention of the manager, and the Chief of Staff. • Supports the Deputy Director in the monitoring of decisions and completion of follow-up actions. • Facilitates the Deputy Director’s interaction with UN offices including UNSDG member entities, Member States and external partners. • Coordinates extensively with service units and liaises frequently with internal team members both at Headquarters and in the field with particular attention to the support of the Resident Coordinator system and United Nations Country Teams (UNCTs). • Screens and prioritizes all incoming correspondence; establishes/improves administrative procedures and systems to ensure smooth functioning of the department, including filing (paper and electronic) systems. • Maintains contact databases and mailing groups. • Identifies and resolves diverse issues/problems as they arise and determines appropriate actions. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Must have passed the United Nations Global General Services Test (GGST) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices Away.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in being a Personal Assistant, programme or project support and administration, technical cooperation or related area in a development cooperation context is required. A minimum of one year of experience with inter-agency or inter-organizational collaboration in the development sector is required. Experience working in the United Nations System or a comparable international organization is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
