Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative (FAOR) , is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. For the period 2022-2026, the FAO Office in Zimbabwe is supporting Government efforts through the Country Programme Framework (CPF) which is based on three pillars: (i) promotion of inclusive agrifood food systems; (ii) building resilience to climate change, agricultural treats and crisis (iii) support to the sustainable management of natural resources.

The position is located in the Zimbabwe country office in Harare.

Reporting Lines

The Programme Liaison Specialist will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Zimbabwe, and direct supervision of the AFAOR-Programme. Supervision received is focused on the quality of the work performed and provides for on-the-job learning

Technical Focus

The technical areas/profiles covered will be as follows:

  • Programme quality assurance and monitoring
  • Information management, analysis, report writing
  • Knowledge sharing

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Assist the programme team in monitoring and implementation of the Country Programming Framework
  • Assist programme team in periodically monitoring the progress of ongoing projects and regular programme activities and promoting partnerships to generate synergies and maximize impact.
  • Contribute to the identification of resource mobilization and partnership opportunities and actively participate in resource mobilization and partnership building
  • Participate in planning and implementing programme activities and campaigns within FAO mandate
  • Assist in corporate work planning and reporting
  • Provide technical assistance to support the monitoring and reporting of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and facilitate linkages with other UN agencies and national and international partners
  • Consolidate quarterly programme and budget information for submission
  • Contribute to communication and visibility activities of the country office in close coordination with the communication unit
  • Facilitate smooth flow of information across projects, operations and technical teams.
  • Any other duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in development studies/ development law/ Agricultural Economics, Project Management or related discipline
  • 5 years of relevant experience in agriculture, food security and nutrition programming, and/or project implementation
  • Working knowledge (Level C) of English
  • National of Zimbabwe
