UNEP has a network of country, liaison, sub-regional and regional offices facilitating the relevant country, sub-regional and regional processes, and coordinating the coherent delivery of UNEP’s programme targeting the causes of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste through seven interlinked sub-programmes for action. These are: Climate Action, Chemicals and Pollution Action, Nature Action, Science-Policy, Environmental Governance, Finance and Economic Transformations, and Digital Transformations. UNEP Regional Office for Africa supports environmental governance institutions and processes and engages a broad range of partners that include governmental, non-governmental, academic, and private sector entities on multilateral environmental agreements and sustainability programmes and projects in response to national, sub regional and regional needs and priorities. UNEP’s support to countries, sub-regions and Africa is guided by reforms of the UN Development System including the UN Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team systems. The Kenya Country Office was established to coordinate UNEP’s activities in Kenya, in liaison with the government, development partners and UN Agencies and is based in Nairobi.

In the framework of UNSDCF and the Government of Kenya’s Vision 2030, the United Nations is committed to supporting the Kenyan Government and fostering actions towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The UNSDCF aims to strengthen government capacity to implement risk-informed strategies and develop policies and actions for implementation of SD Goals.

Under the direct supervision of the Kenya Country Programme of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Establish a link and act as a liaison between the various Ministries, the county govern-ments, the UN Country Team and other partners. • In liaison with UNEP and all partners establish the team’s work plans and set objec-tives & performance indicators for achievement of planned results. • Promote teamwork and partnerships to facilitate harmonization, integration & linkages. • Handle all correspondences under the program; • Coordinate the meetings workshops and travel arrangements for the technical teams as assigned. • Coordinate with personnel in all the counties targeted by the program. • Participate in monitoring and evaluation of the UNCT programmes and projects on activities of the UNCT in Kenya • Continuously update the UN Kenya Country Team and other partners on the status progress and workplans of the programme • Provide first-level technical assistance in the preparation and executing of the assessment, including support in data collection and data analysis in various sector as per the UNSDCF. • Prepare reports, information, communication, and outreach products resulting from the specific activities under the programme • Explore resource mobilization opportunities with government, bilateral and multilateral partners, private sector, and others actors and Analyze donor trends (donor policies, sectoral and geographic preferences, etc.); • Facilitate meetings with governors of the targeted counties and follow up on public participation; • Provide strategic advice to the UNCT and relevant partners on the identification and establishment of innovative partnership modalities, exploring new partners (e.g., emerging donors, CSOs, academic institutions, private partnerships, and fund mechanisms); • Undertakes other tasks as may be requested by Head of Kenya Country Progarmme which directly relates to the programme. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. Results/Expected Outputs • An enhanced UN -Government strategic partnership • An improved coordination of project activities at national and local levels (meetings, workshops, travels, etc.); • The documentation of project activities (workplans, reports, etc.) and relevant data; • The management of communications and outreach materials of the project; • The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring, and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); • Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) and Youth perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in, and capacities developed

project or programme management in the environmental sector including at least three (3) at the international level is required. Proven technical skills in the area of Project Management including but not limited to Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Management, Socioeconomic Surveys, and Quantitative Data Analysis is desired. Work experience in managing government projects and conducting rapid environment assessment will be an advantage.

The Republic of Kenya is an equatorial nation on the coast of East Africa, neighboring So-malia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Indian Ocean. Kenya has seven ad-ministrative provinces plus the Nairobi Area. Provinces are further divided into districts. Kenya is a multi-party state with Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. Kenya’s population of more than 39 million is growing at an annual rate of 2.2%. The country’s GNP per capita estimated at purchasing power parity (PPP) is $975, and the GNP is growing at a rate of 0.1% annually. More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international pov-erty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tu-bers.” (FAO) The normal “lean season” is in June and July. Severe drought in 1999-2000 led to decreased agricultural production, and according to FAO, “seriously undermined the food security of 4.4 million people, particularly in pastoral areas. Kenya. Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services are available locally at cost. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta Inter-national Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that is serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP.
