You have:

  • Advanced university degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Social Sciences, International Relations, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Management or other related fields.
  • 10 years of relevant and increasingly responsible professional and managerial experience in development and multilateral institutions or government at the national and international levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of UNFPA mandate areas.
  • Proven experience in development programming, particularly at country/regional levels, including programme and financial management.
  • Understanding of UN intergovernmental and interagency systems would be an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams to achieve demonstrable results.
  • Excellent communication skills in speaking and writing in English.
  • Knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is desirable.

Contract

This is a P-5 contract. This kind of contract is known as Professional and Director staff. It is normally internationally recruited only. It's a staff contract. It usually requires 10 years of experience, depending on education.

Salary

The salary for this job should be between 194,686 USD and 243,986 USD.

Salary for a P-5 contract in New York

The international rate of 110,869 USD, with an additional 75.6% (post adjustment) at this the location, applies. Please note that depending on the location, a higher post adjustment might still result in a lower purchasing power.

The Position:

The Programme Coordinator, Operational Support and Quality Assurance Branch (OSQAB) in the Policy and Strategy Division (PSD) is based at UNFPA Headquarters and reports to the Chief, OSQAB. The post leads and coordinates the Global and Regional Programme (GRP) and supervises the team that provides programme support and quality assurance to regional offices and country offices for the formulation, approval, implementation, reporting and evaluation of programmes, which also includes operational support and policy advice.

Job Purpose:

The Programme Coordinator will coordinate and manage the development, approval, monitoring and reporting of UNFPA Global and Regional Programme (GRP), including the one global and six regional action plans throughout the cycle. S/he will provide strategic leadership and coordination for the team to provide high-level representation, advocacy and coverage for enhanced visibility and positioning of country and regional programmes at the global level. S/he will also facilitate programme operational support to the field offices, cross-regional programme collaboration and knowledge sharing and provide policy guidance and advisory services. The core functions of the Programme Coordinator include:

  • Strategic leadership, coordination and management of the fund-wide GRP;
  • Strategic leadership, coordination and management of quality programming support;
  • Operational support and capacity development; and
  • Policy guidance and advice.

Education:

Advanced university degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Social Sciences, International Relations, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Management or other related fields.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 10 years of relevant and increasingly responsible professional and managerial experience in development and multilateral institutions or government at the national and international levels;
  • Job knowledge and expertise – the incumbent is expected to have in-depth knowledge of UNFPA mandate areas;
  • Knowledge of and proven experience in development programming, particularly at country/regional levels, including programme and financial management;
  • Involvement in and understanding of UN intergovernmental and interagency systems would be an asset;
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams to achieve demonstrable results;
  • Excellent communication skills in speaking and writing in English;
  • Strong interest in development work, especially the mission of the United Nations Population Fund and dedication to the principles of the United Nations; and
  • Proven UNFPA field experience is a strong asset.

Languages:

Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is desirable.
