The Position:

The Programme Coordinator, Goma Decentralized Office, is the sub-office head, ensuring the programmatical and administrative representation of UNFPA in the Eastern part of the country. He/she works under the guidance and supervision of the Representative in coordination with the Deputy Representative as head of Programmes.

Job Purpose:

The Programme Coordinator/head of sub-office Goma, is in charge of ensuring UNFPA presence and visibility in the East region in DRC. He/she leads the regional staff team and ensures that UNFPA resources (human – financial) are well managed, in respect of UNFPA rules and procedures. He/She maintains UNFPA visibility within the UN family, ensuring implementation of UNFPA programme/projects, assuring quality control and operations excellence.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

Advanced university degree (Master) in social work or other social sciences, Business Administration, public/community health, gender, legal advice as it relates to development or related field.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least seven (7) years of increasingly responsible professional experiences in the field of development, including designing and appraising programmes and projects.
  • Awareness and knowledge of gender issues and their relevance in humanitarian and development settings.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial qualities in organizing work harmoniously within a multinational and multicultural environment;
  • Experience in sexual and reproductive health and rights and/or gender-based violence is a strong asset;
  • Prior UN system experience, particularly in the humanitarian area, is an asset;
  • Personal qualities must include maturity, self-confidence, outstanding communication skills, initiative, strong conceptual abilities, sound judgment and organization skills (including time management). Strong interest in development work especially in the mission of United Nations Population Fund and dedication to the UN principles.

Languages:

Fluent in French. Working knowledge in English (writing and reading).
