Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women’s global gender data programme, “Making Every Woman and Girl Count” (Women Count), delivered significant results in scaling up work on gender statistics availability, accessibility, and use during Phase I of its implementation. For Phase II, with gender data being elevated as one strategic outcome of UN Women’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, Women Count continues to support Member States and lead efforts on mainstreaming gender perspectives in three key interventions:

  • Enabling environment for the production and use of gender statistics: Put in place supportive policy, legal and financial environment to ensure gender-responsive national adaptation and effective monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Increasing the production of gender statistics: Increase availability of quality, comparable and regular gender statistics to address national data gaps and meet policy and reporting commitments under the SDGs, Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and Beijing Declaration
  • Increasing data accessibility and use: Ensure that gender statistics are accessible to all users (including governments, civil society, academia and private sector) and can be analyzed, communicated, and used to inform research, advocacy, policies and programmes, and promote accountability

Under the supervision of the Programme and Knowledge Management Specialist, the Programme Coordinator will provide analytical and logistical support for the implementation of Women Count programmatic activities including related to monitoring and reporting; coordinate advocacy events and knowledge products under Women Count; and provides support on knowledge management activities and contributes to the broader work of UN Women as it relates to Women Count.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Coordinate knowledge management and internal/external communication activities for Women Count

  • Provide support in overseeing efficient flow of information across all levels of implementation and facilitate dissemination and sharing of resources between global, regional and country offices including ensuring internal Document Hub is maintained;
  • Provide coordination support, as needed, to ensure preparations of the Mid-Term Review of Women Count Phase II are on track, including supporting the Programme Specialist in developing a knowledge repository for the data collection Phase.
  • Maintain and update external mailing list to disseminate the Women Count newsletter, as needed;
  • Maintain and regularly update a calendar of events that are relevant to Women Count’s implementation and advocacy opportunities.

2. Provide logistical, analytical and coordination support for the implementation, monitoring and reporting of Women Count

  • Provide logistical support to the Programme Specialist in the coordination and production of the Women Count Annual Report and related publications, liaising with the design and printing vendors, including the digital launch of the Annual Report on the Women Count Data Hub;
  • Provide analytical support, as needed for reporting and monitoring activities of Women Count, in preparing Quarterly highlights, Annual Report 2023;
  • Develop and implement event planning and coordination tools for the timely preparation of workshops, events and meetings for programme as needed, with oversight from the Programme Specialist and Outreach Specialist;
  • Provide support, as needed, in any post-Annual Review Meeting 2024 tasks.

Scope of Work:

  • Maintained Microsoft Teams and Sharepoint site for Women Count team in the field;
  • Updated external mailing list for dissemination of the Women Count newsletter;
  • Support to coordinate the Women Count monitoring and reporting processes provided, including for the digital launch of the 2023 Annual Report;
  • Knowledge repository created to inform the Mid-term Review data collection phase;
  • Maintain a shared calendar of global, regional and country events that is accessible to members of the team that is updated on a quarterly basis;
  • Liaised with printing and design vendors to produce the Women Count Annual Report and related knowledge products;
  • Timely support provided to the Programme Specialist on programmatic processes, as needed, to ensure timely implementation of the Women Count programme activities.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Certification:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in development related disciplines, gender, statistics, development, programme management, knowledge management or other related fields
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in providing coordination, analytical, data analysis support and/or supporting global programmes related to gender equality and women’s rights;
  • Experience in coordinating events, workshops, meetings and advocacy activities;
  • Experience in using Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint and document sharing tools/platforms.
  • Knowledge of gender statistics is an asset.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset.
