STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced university degree in economics, political science, statistics, or another relevant field Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language (English and Arabic), if different.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Regional Bureaux (RBs), Country Offices (COs), Area/Field Offices (AOs/FOs). Job holders typically report to a Programme Policy Officer or Head of Field Office. At this level, job holders are expected to demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to various queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen operational problems on a daily basis. Job holders are expected to manage resources and coach and coordinate support staff.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide effective specialized support and technical analyses to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Support the Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping unit in the development of food security, market, and vulnerability analysis.
  2. Assist in coordinating VAM data collection, cleaning and analysis activities ensuring data completeness, timeliness, and quality.
  3. Perform statistical tests using advanced statistical methods (descriptive and interferential statistics, regression analysis, multivariate data analysis, etc.) to support the analysis of household food security and vulnerability data.
  4. Prepare periodic reports and analysis to inform units and Field Offices on data entry needs.
  5. Support the production of newsletters and periodic reports on the food security and market price trends.
  6. Programme questionnaires for all VAM data collections.
  7. Draft periodic food security and market price monitoring reports for both West Bank and Gaza Strip.
  8. Preparing the Food Security information for updating the food security reports (SEFSec and baselines surveys).
  9. Follow-up the data issue by PCBS and update the database for these indicators, and follow-up the reports issued by other organizations such as IMF, World Bank etc.
  10. Monitor and update socio economic data pertaining to Palestine (West Bank and Gaza Strip), specifically market prices, labour force data, CPI as well as import and export figures.
  11. Consolidate the market monthly data received from the sub-offices and from official sources (PCBS), maintain and update the database, update, and carry out the price analysis regularly and calculate the market value of WFP in-kind and voucher programmes.
  12. Provide inputs and update indicators for the WFP global food security monitoring system on monthly base

Strategic Policy Engagement w/Government Understands and applies basic principles of engagement with government counterparts at the national or local level.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive experience of data analysis statistical and research methods
  • Experience working with price, economic and household survey data.
  • Proficiency in analysing quantitative and qualitative data relating to food security, nutrition, market, and vulnerability.
  • Good knowledge of WFP’s food security and nutrition indicators is preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of statistical theory and methods related to sampling, questionnaire design, data analysis and cleaning
  • Experience in drafting high-quality food security and nutrition reports based on analytical findings
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional work experience in data analysis, research, and policy formulation

Experience in reporting and communications is a plus.

Duration: Eleven months (suggested starting date as 01.10.2021)

Remuneration: 10,701 ILS monthly, unworked days will be deducted

Social Insurance: Not applicable

Renewal of contract: Subject to WFP needs, staff performance and the availability of funds for a maximum duration on 11 months

Annual leave: Not applicable

Sick Leave: Not applicable

Taxes: Remuneration under SSA is not exempt from national or local taxation
