Brief description of WFP in Uganda

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is the largest and longest-serving humanitarian agency in Uganda. Currently, WFP’s work in Uganda focuses on Saving lives in Emergencies; Building Resilience through Predictable Safety Nets; Improving Nutrition & Mother-and Child Health, and Supporting Small Holder Farmers to Access Markets. WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.

ARE YOU UP TO THE CHALLENGE?

We are seeking a National Consultant for the position of Programme Associate (Nutrition) G6 to be based in Kampala. The selected candidate will be employed on a fixed-term contract. (12 months renewable)

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The job is found in the WFP Uganda Country Offices (COs), Kampala. The Job holder will typically report to the Nutritionist.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide technical support at the WFP country office level to effectively coordinate the programme implementation and resource utilization in the nutrition unit

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Support the development of nutrition projects, workplans, ensuring alignment with wider government and WFP nutrition policies and guidance
  2. Support the nutrition unit with timely funds and pipeline management.
  3. Support nutrition programme management ensuring a coordinated approach with wider programmes/projects that comply with WFP standards and procedures as well as national policies and guidelines
  4. Liaise with implementing partners (internal and external) and government to monitor ongoing projects, ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness and efficiency, and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
  5. Support the identification of potential partners and partnership negotiations to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to addressing nutrition needs
  6. Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners, national and sub-national government to prepare for and respond to nutrition needs for example the development of policy, guidelines, training, and IEC materials.
  7. Support documentation and evidence generation for nutrition programmes.
  8. Support internal and donor reporting for the nutrition programmes, projects and activities.
  9. Participate in all relevant nutrition coordination and technical forums at national level

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree in Human Nutrition, Public health, community health, food science, social sciences, or any other related field.

Experience: At least, 5 years of relevant working experience in the field of nutrition, food security, or emergency response in a Humanitarian or development organization. Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful track record in advocacy, networking and inter-agency collaboration and management
  • Has worked with technical teams (i.e. nutrition, VAM, etc.).
  • Has contributed to implementation of programmes.
  • Has observed or assisted with policy discussions.
