Contract

The Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) is responsible for leading FAO’s response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning and implementation of FAO’s priority activities in the region. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in the region and, in collaboration with Divisions/Offices/Centers at headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO’s strategic response to regional priorities. RAP also advises on the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization’s Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the region, monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. RAP develops and maintains relations with region-wide institutions including the Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs). The Regional Office supports regional policy dialogue on food security, agriculture and rural development issues, facilitates the emergence of regional partnerships, and supports capacity development and resource mobilization for food security, agriculture and rural development in the region.

The post is located in the Country Support and Field Programme (CFP) Module at the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) in Bangkok, Thailand. The CFP Module is responsible for overall oversight, quality assurance, and strategic and operational planning and capacity development for effective management action on the field programme across the region, including regional projects managed by RAP.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Field Programme Officer (SFPO), the UN Youth Volunteer will assist with the development and implementation of programmes and activities related to the field programme and regional projects across the region, including support to Country Offices, through the following tasks:

Key Functions • Collects and analyses relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related information, data and/or statistics to support the delivery of programme, projects as well as products and services; • Undertakes analysis, provides technical input for proposals, project documents, plans and reports and edits/revises technical documents; • Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars, etc.; • Participates in the organization, conduct and follow-up of meetings, consultations, the development/production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to RAP technical teams and/or country offices.

Specific Functions • Monitors the progress of both pipeline and ongoing projects at regional level and prepares relevant reports and briefs according to pre-established formats. • Supports the identification of projects/programmes facing problems • Provides support to the budget holders in ensuring the provision of scheduled inputs including experts, consultants, equipment, fellowships, training, and sub-contracts, and technical backstopping, and monitors their timely execution, in line with project work plans. • Acts as focal point, oversees and coordinates the collection and storage of information and documents. • Monitors the completion of field projects and follows up with budget holders to ensure the timely submission of terminal reports and operational and financial closure of projects.

or demonstrated interest in project management and monitoring, including but not limited to, research, monitoring or data management of programmes/ projects in the areas of agricultural development, food security, fisheries, biodiversity and/or project planning/formulation/implementation; • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Candidates with 0 to 3 years of experience will be considered.

Bangkok allowed basic living needs, including accommodation, banking facilities, medical facilities and telecommunications/internet services are readily available. All staple foods can be found in the markets, e.g.: rice, meat, vegetables, fruit, cooking oil, salt, etc. Bangkok has different public transportation options, including the BTS Skytrain and MRT Underground, metered taxis, mobile-based ride-hailing services (Grab, All Thai Taxi, etc.), tuk tuks, motorbike taxis, buses, and boats. Mobile phone is the most dependable tool to be in-touch with colleagues and friends. Internet service is readily available and affordable at most apartment complexes.
