ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

WFP supports over 1.4 million people in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh including over 860,000 Rohingya refugees and host community Bangladeshi under the L2 emergency operation. WFP provides food and nutrition assistance to the entire refugee population in the world’s largest refugee camp as well as school meals, nutrition service, and livelihood support to host communities in Cox’s Bazar.

JOB PURPOSE

The Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) unit of the United Nations World Food Programme Bangladesh is playing a critical role in meeting the humanitarian needs of Rohingya refugees and host communities in Cox's Bazar. The KIM unit investigates the different data sources of useful information available within the emergency, centralizes and transforms them and extracts insightful information that can be later visualized as reports or dashboards. In an environment where the need for data-driven decision-making is steadily increasing, the importance of having a digitalized, automated, and robust flow of information does as well, and there is where the relevance of the KIM unit lies. The holder of the position will work under the overall supervision of the Head of MEAL and direct supervision of the Operational Data Analyst.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The KIM Associate will provide support in the following areas:

  • Support the Operational Data Analyst on overall KIM duties.
  • Take a main role in the centralization of the emergency data sources, specifically in the ongoing collaboration between the Cox’s Bazar emergency and the Cash-Based Transfer Data Assurance Team (CBT DAT) based in HQ.
  • Related with the previous point, develop advanced data transformations using Python, pandas, and Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Support management, design and implementation of new analysis that fulfill the necessities of the different units within the emergency.
  • Review the information flow in place and provide constructive critics with the goal of improving its robustness, privacy protection and automation.
  • Interact with the Information & Management focal points of the different units and translate their business needs into technical requirements.
  • Support on the maintenance of the already existing dashboards, updating them and including new functionalities when required.
  • In the absence of the Operational Data Analyst, take over some of the critical roles and duties.
  • Provide capacity support to other staff related to various aspects of data analysis and visualization.
  • Perform any other duty as required by line supervisor, related to KIM.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, MIS , data analysis or other related fields. Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant subject is preferable.

Experience: At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience including three years in analytics, information management, data visualization and/or data base management.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Advanced level using Python (preferred), or any other analytics related coding language (R, Matlab, Scala, Julia, or SAS). Intermediate level using SQL
  • Advanced Excel.
  • Any experience regarding visualization software as Tableau is preferred
  • PowerBI, SAP Analytics, Salesforce Einstein or Domo will be very valued

Language: Fluency in English & Bengali (both oral and written) is required. Fluency in Chittagonian dialect is an advantage.
