JOB PURPOSE

A Field Research Assistant is being sought to provide field-based support for the undertaking of the Eswatini Gender Analysis. The Assistant is expected to provide support towards coordination of field based activities of the Analysis, coordination with UN, National entities pertinent to the exercise, Government institutions, organise and make arrangements for relevant events, meetings with key analysis stakeholders, workshops, platforms prerequisite to the Analysis process.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programme (HoP) and direct supervision of the Gender Advisor, the Assistant will be responsible for the following:

  • Coordinate and Support in collecting of required documentation from Partners and WFP staff required for the Analysis;
  • Support in the organisation of the required meetings with UN entities and relevant Government entities, Partners and related institutions;
  • Assist coordinate and organise planned research field trips and field based logistics;
  • Organise relevant events and meetings pertinent at Field level, including with Relief Committees, where necessary;
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders as relates organisation of interviews, FGDs, workshops etc;
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of Gender Analysis exercise, conducting routine communications with key stakeholders as required by the team;
  • Make arrangements for planned field visits to project sites, and accompany Analysis team on these visits;
  • Handle substantive and logistical matters for the convening of the Consultative platform for the Gender Action Plan process;
  • Ensure frequent communication and coordination with WFP CO Gender Advisor, to identify any arising field-based concerns and provide updates of all aspects related to matters between team and CO;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Completion of secondary school education
  • Diploma in Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Social Sciences or other field relevant to international development assistance, with related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
  • Fluency in English and Siswati both oral and written communication.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in humanitarian, or development projects (preferably in WFP operations with Eswatini context)

  • Experience in field-based operations, implementing and managing programmes, especially within diverse communities and contexts Specific experience with Nutrition and food assistance programmes will be further valued.
  • Experience with engagement of various stakeholders at UN, Government, NGO and CBO partnership implementation and in technical assistance areas will be considered as a strong asset.
  • Engagement in WFP work and activities, especially at field level, and familiarity with CO operations and programmes
  • Conversant with WFP Gender policy, tools and provisions.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work with a team and establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Good time planning and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Communication and negotiation skills.

DELIVERABLES AT END OF CONTRACT

  • Efficiently managed Analysis operations and plans;
  • Gender Action Plan well-coordinated Consultative Platform for key stakeholders;
  • Strategic coordination of all required key stakeholders;
  • Aligned facilitation of all internal inputs required for smooth undertaking of Analysis, in full consultation with Gender Advisor;

  • This is a short term position. Duration - 3 months
  • This is a local position for Swazi nationals only.
