This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

FAO’s work in the region focuses on supporting countries in transforming their agri-food systems to address the existing challenges and accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. FAO Regional office for the NENA region Programme is organized around four Regional Priority programmes and a series of crosscutting action areas. The Regional Priorities are the result of extensive consultations with countries and regional stakeholders. Regional Priority1: Rural transformation and inclusive value chains for youth employment and income: enhancing productivity and income, focusing on youth employment and women empowerment to close rural/urban divide Regional Priority 2: Food security and healthy diets for all: focusing on trade, food safety and quality, and nutrition education Regional Priority 3: Greening agriculture: addressing water scarcity and ensuring environmental sustainability and climate action Regional Priority 4: Building resilience to multiple shocks, protracted crises and emergency situations along the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.

The UNV is expected to join and contribute to the work of one of the above Programmes according to his/her field of competence.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Manager of the relevant Regional Programme, the UNV will perform the following key functions:

• Analyzes relevant technical social, economic, environmental, and technology information, data and/or statistics for input in various documents • Maintains records and updates databases and web pages • Provides technical support to various projects • Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars etc. • Participates in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/expected outputs:

• As an active FAO team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to FAO RNE and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including Analysis of information, database/web services to support programmes and projects, products and services. • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed
