You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainable development or related field.
  • Experience volunteering or working in a related field.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Contract

This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

This UNV assignment is part of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) West Asia Office initiatives and will contribute to the implementation on the UNEP’s communication strategy including visibility of the work of UNEP at the UN Country Team level. UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP West Asia Office, based in Beirut, Lebanon, coordinates the implementation of UN Environment’s Programme of Work in West Asia, with a focus on enabling member states and stakeholders to achieve their visions for sustainable development.

Under the direct supervision of the Climate Change Regional Coordinator, the National UN Youth Volunteer will support the coordination of the 4 following projects for the State of Kuwait

a- Low Carbon Strategy 2050 – to provide policy makers in Kuwait with a guiding document, based on solid analysis and transparent methodologies, which sets out the path towards a low-greenhouse gas (GHG) emission future across the economy. 

b- Developing National Programme for Chemicals Safety - The objective will be achieved through conducting a situation analysis on the status of chemicals management in the country and developing a national plan for chemical safety. 

c- Preparation of the National Action Plan for Sustainable Consumption and Production for 2050 - The importance and scope of the action plan require the design of large-scale consultation processes with a wide range of relevant stakeholders to ensure credibility, authority, and successful implementation of the action plan. 

d- Indicator Based State of Environment Report Powered by e-MISK – to represent an instrumental way of developing and communicating environmental information to decision makers. 

Tasks include:

• Track and monitor assigned project activities and deliverables • Maintain knowledge and records management system to the implementation of the assigned projects. • Gathering of required technical reports for submission to UNEP’s Units • Support in preparing and drafting concept notes when applicable • Gather info/data for the requirements reports on the progress of the four projects • Data collection and stakeholder mapping • Contribute with the program officers in programmatic and administrative tasks related to the Projects • Develop program schedules, oversee budgeting expenses, connect with event venues, and write instructional documents.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Beirut, Lebanon National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
