This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

This UNV assignment is part of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) West Asia Office initiatives and will contribute to the implementation of the Regional Development Unit strategy to support the UN Country Teams, through coordinating the different tasks related to collecting environmental inputs for the UNCT processes. UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP West Asia Office, based in Beirut, Lebanon, coordinates the implementation of UN Environment’s Programme of Work in West Asia, with a focus on enabling member states and stakeholders to achieve their visions for sustainable development.

Under the direct supervision of the regional development coordinator, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:

• Support the monitoring and managing of the implementation of UNEP UN Country Team engagement plan at national level, particularly pilot projects at UN Country Team (UNCT) level related to UN Common approach on biodiversity and circularity drafting necessary reports and tracking key performance indicators. • Provide mapping of UNCTs in the region to help build a solid analysis required for UNEP’s political engagement in the region • Assist the Regional Development Coordinator in identifying key success factors and barriers for re the work with different Resident Coordinators’ Offices and UNCTs. • Support the coordination of the project’s awareness raising and capacity building activities, elaborate communication material, as well as monitoring and reporting on the outreach impact identifying effective key performance indicators. • Assist in researching, analyzing, and presenting information gathered from diverse sources, to provide a solid background for matters related to the environmental that the Office considers as a priority for the region and for the countries. • Support in tracking changes of focal points and Heads of Agencies in UNCTs, and prepare briefs for the Regional Director when meeting with newly appointed Heads of Agencies. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisors.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Beirut, Lebanon National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
