This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

UN Women has included women with disability as one of the excluded groups for programmatic outreach under its Strategic Note (SN) 2018-22 and will continue to priorities disability inclusion in the new SN 2023-27. UN Women NCO designed and implemented a sub-national governance programme with a strong focus on disability inclusion (funded by UNPRPD as a part of Aawaaz project) with funding support of government of Finland. This included institutional support to 10 organizations led by PWDs at the local level. As part of its COVID 19 response, UN Women partnered with an organisation (KOSHISH) led by persons with psychosocial disabilities on an initiative on mental health and psycho-social support . Through the partnership, three toll free numbers have been made operational as helpline numbers to provide remote/virtual psychosocial and mental health support to women and excluded groups including youth. Further, UN Women targeted women with disabilities as one of the target groups for the comprehensive relief support package – its flagship COVID 19 response initiative . Going forward, UN Women will be implementing disability inclusive governance programme as a part of fourth cycle of UNPRPD funding for 2022-23.

UN Women is committed to gender equality and inclusion from an intersectional lens and NCO has been working on disability rights and inclusions through its targeted and mainstream programmes. UN Women Nepal is part of the fourth cycle of UNPRPD funding which will be implemented in 2022-23. UN Women NCO’s diversity strategy aims to promote increased diversity and equality of opportunity in the organization’s recruitment processes and workforce. This assignment will enable UN Women to work closely with PwDs and diversify its work force. He/She/They will work closely with the Programme Unit under the direct supervision of the programme officer/disability focal point and support with implementation programmes on disability inclusion funded by UNPRPD. Further, he/she/they will support the programme unit to review and strengthen NCO’s programming from disability lens and manage inter-agency coordination on disability and LNOB work. He/She/They will also support to review and provide recommendations to strengthen internal documents and processes from disability lens and support NCO to make its internal processes and programming disability inclusive and responsive. This assignment will provide the UNV an opportunity to enhance their knowledge on gender equality, intersectionality, programme management, inter-agency coordination as well as UN/UN Women values and working culture.

Under the direct supervision of Program Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1) Provide programme management support to NCO programme inter-vention on gender and disability rights and inclusion

• Support programme unit to identify areas for support and intervention to advance gen-der and disability inclusion programme in line with UN Women Nepal Country Office Strategy Note and across humanitarian-development continuum • Prepare and review programme documents on gender and disability inclusion including terms of reference, partner and donor reports and deliverables. • Facilitate and coordinate project implementation on gender and disability inclusion funded by UNPRPD. • Provide technical assistance for developing and updating project briefs and fact-sheet on disability inclusion and rights. • Maintain the repository of programme/project related documents on disability inclusion and rights. • Provide technical inputs from disability lens to the annual workplan and budget; • Review, coordinate and monitor the submission of financial and narrative reports from partners working on disability inclusion; •Facilitate administrative, logistic and documentation support for partner meetings and stakeholder consultations on disability inclusion.

  1. Provide technical assistance and capacity development to project/programme partners

• Coordinate and provide technical support to strengthen disability inclusion component in the ongoing programme activities under inclusive governance and Women’s eco-nomic empowerment. • Support programme officer to identify opportunities for capacity building of partners on disability rights and inclusion and facilitate technical/ programming support, trainings and advocacy support to partners, as needed.

  1. Provide technical inputs to strengthen internal documents and processes of UN Women from disability lens

• Review internal documents of UN Women such as strategic note, diversity strategy , programme strategies and processes from disability lens and provide technical inputs to strengthen disability components and accessibility. • Design and organize learning sessions on disability inclusion and rights for UN Wom-en NCO personnel to promote disability inclusive organizational culture. • Develop knowledge products on disability rights and inclusion to inform UN Women in-ternal process and programming.

  1. Provide technical and substantive inputs to building partnerships and resource mobilization, as and when required.

• Support programme unit with technical and substantive inputs to resource mobilization for gender and disability inclusive work; analyze and maintain information and data-bases of funding partners/donors on gender and disability inclusion; • Prepare relevant documentation such as project summaries, conference papers, brief-ing notes, speeches, and donor profiles; • Participate in donor meetings and public information events, as delegated, in particular on gender and disability inclusion • Participate in inter-agency meetings on disability inclusion, LNOB-GESI working group and joint programming working group.

development and humanitarian work. Prior work experience on gender equality, inclusive governance would be an added value.

• Demonstrated experience working with and building partnerships with donors and civil society, government counterparts at federal and sub-national level.

• Working experience with UN Women, other United Nations agencies or Development Organi-sation is an asset.

Security situation is normal in Kathmandu. COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant economic impact on the country; while the vaccine is being rolled-out to specific population group, it will take some time to cover all population. Suggested to avoid large gatherings and to maintain social distancing, wearing of masks and frequent hand washing to practice. Living conditions, accommodation, transportation and basic amenities are good. UN House in Nepal is disability friendly working place, marked with Brail signs in rest rooms, separately marked vehicle parking space, use of rubber tactile, standard curb ramps placed at various places of the pathways. The UN Volunteer will be based in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Nepal is a country rich in its culture and nature.
