**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Field Office Duty Station: Cairo Classification of duty station: \[\[filter12\]\] Standard Duration of Assignement : \[\[filter13\]\] Job Family: Social and Human Sciences Type of contract : Non Staff Level : Level 3 Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 19.04.2022 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Within the framework of the Social and Human Sciences (SHS) Programme, and under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO Cairo Office and the direct supervision of the office’s SHS Programme Specialist, the incumbent will undertake the following duties in full respect of UNESCO rules and regulations: 1\. Provide assistance and contribute to the conceptualization, design, planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of activities, in line with the set work plan of the Office’s SHS Sector at Egypt level. Contribute and assist in undertaking researches and extracting and compiling information and data on specific topics and issues related to the SHS Programme areas of work in relation to UN Climate Change Conference COP27, World Youth Forum and Decent Life initiative of Egypt. 2\. Contribute to the planning and organization of UNESCO Cairo activities in recent flagship initiatives and platforms at the regional level in 2022, such as, the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development (AFSD), UN Economic and Social Council Regional Youth Forum (ECOSOC) and Regional Health Alliance (RHA): Global Action Plan for Health Lives and Well-being. 3\. Provide additional technical assistance to support the development of concept notes and project documents that are in line with both UNESCO strategic objectives, SHS mandates, and the existing UN Partnership Development Framework (UNPDF/Egypt) in main results groups and pillars, namely: Women and People, Gender and Development Partners Group (GAD) and Urban Development Partners Group in addition to the Youth Task force. Long Description ---------------- 4\. Support CAI/SHS Programme mandate on the national level by contributing to the preparations of the upcoming UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework of Egypt (which will start in 2023). 5\. Support the CAI/SHS Programme mandate at national level for resources mobilization to integrate CAI/SHS interventions and activities to this critical priority of Egypt and to mainstream social aspects in this initiative. 6\. Provide technical assistance and contribute to SHS programme reporting (including reporting through SISTER, UNESCO’s online results-based management system); prepare progress reports; contribute to the visibility of the programme, including through the preparation of promotional materials, and articles for posting on the Cairo Office website and newsletter. Long Description ---------------- 7\. Provide technical assistance and contribute to the planning and organization of regional and national training workshops, conferences, and seminars. 8\. Liaise and follow up regularly with consultants, contractors, meeting participants, and partners to ensure smooth implementation of activities as per work plan. 9\. Provide general office assistance; prepare contracts and payments; prepare official correspondence; make travel arrangements for meeting participants; set up and maintain files/records; handle routine administrative tasks; translate documents (English-Arabic and vice versa). Undertake missions, and takes part in meetings with technical partners, as requested and when delegated by the Director of Office or the SHS Programme Specialist. 12\. Perform other duties as required by the Director of Office or the SHS Programme Specialist. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **EDUCATION:** University degree (Master degree would be an asset) in the field of social sciences, socio economic studies or another related field. **LANGUAGE:** Excellent level of English (written/spoken/reading comprehension). **WORK EXPERIENCE:** Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in one or more fields related to social development including: youth, gender empowerment, urban inclusion, inter- cultural dialogue, etc. In-depth knowledge of the socio-economic context in the Arab region, particularly as it relates to the development of youth and women.
