In Kenya, Making Every Woman and Girl Count (MEWGC) is an initiative meant to strengthen the capacity of the Government and Non-State Actors to produce and use gender statistics in order to inform and monitor the implementation of Kenya’s gender-related commitments in the 2030 Agenda.

The program has three objectives : 1. Promoting an enabling environment by putting in place a supportive and well-coordinated policy environment to ensure gender-responsive localization and effective monitoring of the SDGs ; 2. Increasing data production by removing technical barriers and constraints to ensure that quality, comparable and regular gender statistics are produced to monitor the implementation of national policies and meet reporting commitments under the SDGs ; and 3. Improving data accessibility by ensuring that the data produced are widely available and used effectively by different players with sufficient capacities to understand, ana-lyze and use them to inform advocacy, research, policies, and programs and to monitor progress on the SDGs.

UN Women Kenya is seeking a programme assistant to support the implementation of the Making Every Woman and Girl Count (MEWGC) programme.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist - Gender Statistics, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks :

A. Programme management support to the Women Count programme: i. Provide programme and administrative support to the programme team in the preparation of programme work plans, budgets, and proposals on programme implementation arrangements. ii. Under the guidance of the supervisor, assemble briefing materials and prepare powerpoint and other presentations for the programme unit. iii. Identify sources and gather and compile data and information for the preparation of documents, guidelines, speeches, and position papers. iv. Assist the programme team in the audit of programmes/projects and support the implementation of audit recommendations. v. Help the team in providing guidance to the executing agencies on the routine implementation of projects, tracking the use of financial resources.

B. Financial management support to the Women Count programme : i. Create projects in Atlas, prepare required budget revisions, revision of project award and project status, determination of unutilized funds, operational and financial close of a project. ii. Create requisitions in Atlas for development projects registers of goods receipt in Atlas. iii. Support the programme team in the financial management of Programmes. iv. Organize, compile and process information from donors, and programme team, as inputs to various databases and documents. v. Support the programme team in the tracking and reporting on mobilized resources.

C. Administrative support to the Women Count programme : i. Provide administrative support to the programme team in the organization of events, meetings, workshops, etc. ii. Make travel arrangements for the programme team and project staff including preparation of travel requisitions and claim iii. Draft non-substantive correspondence iv. Maintain and organize up-to-date hard and electronic files for easy access and retrieval. Ensure safekeeping of confidential materials. v. Organize and coordinate filing of correspondence/documents and ensure up-to-date filing. Maintain both hard copies and electronic copies of the official records and reference files on various subjects. vi. Create and maintain appropriate folders for reference materials received electronically. vii. Prepare presentation material/slides in PowerPoint for presentations for the meet ings/workshops and keep all papers ready for meetings. viii. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the direct supervisor and senior management.

D. Knowledge management, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) support : i. Develop and maintain programme information and knowledge management file (both soft and hard copies) at the country project level to manage consultancy reports, assessments, and other reports; ii. Support knowledge sharing processes and systems by, among others, strengthening development and integration of practices and procedures for information and knowledge capturing, packaging, sharing, and learning ; a. Provide support to improve and implement collaborative processes and tools for pooling and consolidating internal knowledge ; promote innovative approaches in sharing knowledge and best practices b. Promote regular sharing of experiences across programmes and divisions ; facilitate seamless sharing of ideas, knowledge, and experiences among staff and partners c. In liaison with M&E and communication team, support drawing of good practices and knowledge emerging from the Kenya country programme and document them for learning. d. Follow up on monitoring data and assisting in compiling data sources, employing collection and/or meta-analysis of monitoring data from the national data sources e. Assist in planning, designing, and implementation of evaluations and reviews including management of the evaluation/ review process (drafting of TOR, identification of consultants, etc. related to Kenya

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: - Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take an active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD) ; - Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country ; - Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities ; - Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. ; - Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers ; - Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

project management for development projects - implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting, and capacity building, at the community or national level ; Experience working with and guiding multiple stakeholders ; Knowledge of report writing and documenting programmatic results ; Knowledge of research and information analysis ; Knowledge of specifics of UN Women/UNDP rules and procedures is an advantage ; Excellent computing and IT skills, with full competency of office software packages.

More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tubers.” (FAO).

Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP.

The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical climate.
