Organizational Setting

FAO's office for Yemen is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Yemen. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level. This position is based in FAO Representation in Sanaa, Yemen. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

Under the direct supervision of the FAO Representative and in close coordination with the Regional Communication Specialist and the direct supervision of Emergency Reporting and Outreach Specialist, the Programme Assistant - Communications & Outreach will contribute to strengthen FAO’s Communication functions in Yemen. His/her support will ensure an effective presence in the media of the FAO as a dynamic and renewed organization that works to strengthen food security and to promote agriculture, fisheries, livestock and the sustainable management of natural resources to the benefit of communities and rural people in need.

Technical Focus

Facilitate compliance of the projects with environmental safeguards standards of FAO and donors (specifically the World Bank) and develop the technical documentation related to all Environmental safeguards. The work will be guided by the FAO technical standards and donor guidelines (e.g. World Bank Environmental and Social Standards) and the project’s Environmental and Social Management Framework and legally binding Environmental and Social Commitment Plan (ESCP).

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an online archive of FAO communication products, including a photo library and a video vault, ensuring that contents are accurately catalogued and indexed, with all the required metadata entered.
  • Assist in the development of various multimedia digital content, to ensure that FAO Yemen’s activities are consistently reflected on FAO's emergency and corporate websites and on FAO’s corporate social media accounts.
  • Assist in the daily management of FAO Yemen social media accounts, production of social media content, creation of engaging posts and regular monitoring of FAO implementing partners’ social media to ensure regular updates and consistent branding of FAO’s activities on social media.
  • Assist in clearance processes for visibility items and communications materials through FAO's Publications Workflow System, to ensure that all relevant publications are entered correctly in the system and keeping communication products and publications in the online repository up to date.
  • Assist in liaising with several communication service providers for the production of audio-visual communication materials, including photography and video production.
  • Assist in the production of English and Arabic Information products for different audiences, including for project activities, workshops and events and supporting field missions for collecting video footage and photography materials.
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by the supervisor.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in Digital Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, International relations, Social Sciences, or any other related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience developing digital media content for development or humanitarian actions.
  • Proficient working knowledge of English.
  • National of Yemen.

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work.
  • Prior experience working with video productions and digital archiving of multi-media content.
