ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND ROLE

The Programme Assistant for Livelihood will work within the Programme unit in Homs FO. The job holder will work in close collaboration with other WFP units involved in the implementation of WFP’s livelihood programmes (activity focal points and other colleagues within Programme, logistics/retail, Finance, IT and others), with livelihood focal points in WFP’s Country Office, as well as with external partners such as cooperating partners.

JOB PURPOSE

To perform specialized and/or standardized policy and programme-related processes and activities to support the effective delivery of assistance packages

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Support the development of livelihoods and resilience programming in the area of operations.
  • Liaise with the concerned authorities, partners and other stakeholders on livelihood and resilience building projects.
  • Assess the training needs of relevant partner staff and support the design and implementation of appropriate capacity development training.
  • Prepare regular implementation reports on livelihoods projects and activities.
  • Conduct required and needed communication and follow up to ensure that projects are implemented as planned and that they achieve their goals.
  • Contribute to documenting lessons learnt and best practices in livelihood and resilience building programming in area of operation.
  • Follow up with cooperating partners (CPs) on monthly reporting.
  • Create Food Release Notes (FRN) for Livelihood in COMET based on inputs and guidance from HoP.
  • Develop and maintain distribution reports (templates) tailored for each partner; these templates would have clear details and explanation when/why dispatch was delayed and distribution spilled into next month.
  • Perform other duties, as required by the direct supervisor.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. University Degree in the related functional area is desirable, and proven experience in Livelihoods programming or the humanitarian field.

Experience: At least four years of progressively responsible work experience related to food security, early recovery, and livelihood programming.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

  • The operational areas covered by the Field Office include a diverse range of livelihood programmes. Candidates should highlight previous programmatic and technical experience the following livelihood portfolio:
  • Rural livelihoods: focus on agricultural production (household-level and smallholder farmers) and infrastructure rehabilitation activities (project management);
