This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s Message on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls on 25 November 2021 “Change is possible. Now is the time to redouble our efforts so that together, we can eliminate violence against women and girls by 2030”.

UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. Its mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. In 2018, UNFPA launched efforts to achieve three transformative results, ambitions that promise to change the world for every man, woman and young person: ending unmet need for family planning, ending preventable maternal death and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices.

UNFPA supports reproductive health care for women and youth in more than 150 countries – which are home to more than 80 per cent of the world’s population. They support health of pregnant women, ensure reliable access to modern contraceptives, capacity building of the health care providers including midwives, prevention, care and response to gender-based violence, prevention of teen pregnancies, end child marriage, delivery of safe birth supplies, dignity kits and other life-saving commodities to survivors of conflict and natural disaster.

2) In UNFPA Country Office, UNFPA works with the government and other partners to ensure that ‘Every woman, adolescent and youth everywhere, especially those furthest behind, has utilized integrated sexual and reproductive health services and exercised reproductive rights, free of coercion, discrimination and violence’. The UNFPA 10th Country Programme seeks to accelerate action towards the achievement of universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, focusing on those furthest behind: delivering a resilient, agile and thriving Bangladesh where every woman and girl lives in dignity and safety, every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and the potential of every young person is realized. It supports the Government of Bangladesh to achieve the 2030 Agenda, seeks to address the unfinished agenda of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action through the achievement of the three transformative results of UNFPA, and is aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and the Government’s 8th Five-Year Plan.

3) UNFPA continue to support government in strengthening the capacity of health systems to provide comprehensive services that respect and protect the human rights of women, men and transgender community living with HIV, HBV or any other STIs and to ensure the involvement of key populations in service planning and delivery to see that services are non-coercive and the human rights of women, children and families affected by HIV, syphilis and hepatitis are protected. While the SRHR and Health response to GBV services constitute a big portion of primary health care package, the structure at national, regional, district and upzilla levels to manage, coordinate and provide high quality technical and specialist support for these programmes is weak. Responding to SRHR needs of women, girls, boys and transgender are critical to the achievement of universal health coverage – one of the key health targets of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Dhaka is located in central Bangladesh along the Buriganga River. Not only is it the capital city, but it is also the largest in the country. It is the centre of political, cultural, and economic life in Bangladesh. The official language is Bengali, while English is the working language of UN Agencies. In recent decades, Dhaka has seen the modernization of services, communications, and public works. The city is attracting large foreign investments and greater volumes of commerce and trade. It is also experiencing an increasing influx of people from across the nation; this has reportedly made Dhaka one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. Good English-speaking medical, dental services, and educational centres are available for internationals. Dhaka is connected to other cities by rail, road, and by air and internationals can move easily from one city to another.

Dhaka has venerable green spaces, including many gardens and parks, historical places, and nice restaurants. The weather is tropical - hot and very humid during the summer monsoon season (April-September) and drier and cooler in the winter (October-March).

Historically, Bangladesh has been a safe country for internationals so far. While Dhaka is not categorized as a hardship station, the volunteer should be prepared for limitations in freedom of movement on foot, by public transport, and to certain locations.
