Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

This UNV assignment is intended to support the Culture Unit of the UNESCO Office in Beirut in the implementation of its programme. With the aim to ensure that culture takes it rightful place in the heart of strategies and processes for social reconciliation and sustainable development, the UNESCO Beirut Office is supporting national authorities, local communities and cultural actors to protect, safeguard and promote all forms of culture, from cherished historic monuments and museums to living heritage practices and contemporary art. This assignment will support existing projects across the different domains of culture including the assistance for the rehabilitation of the Sursock Palace (https://www.unesco.org/en/articles/libeirut-unesco-and-switzerland-announce-funding-place-begin-rehabilitating-beiruts-iconic-sursock?hub=365), activities to revive the cultural life (https://en.unesco.org/events/terdad-2021-revival-beirut-cultural-life) and safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage. It will also support the development of new projects in the different domains of Culture.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Programme Specialist for Culture or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Programme Assistant will:

• Provide programme and administrative support for the preparation of programme and project documents, such as progress and final reports, notes to the file and budgets • Participate in the programmatic and financial design and planning of new projects • Provide support in the advocacy and knowledge building activities for UNESCO’s Culture programme in Lebanon • Assist in the preparation and follow-up of meetings, trainings, workshops, and any other programme and project related events • Assist the programme team in reviewing and preparing documentation on the procurement of goods and services, and supports contract preparation tracking. • Provide support in monitoring the implementation of projects by consolidating workplans, progress narrative and financial reports and maintaining timetables of implementation • Support documentation of the best practices and lessons learned linked to strategic and operational objectives of the programmes • Establishe and maintenance an efficient filing and document retrieval system and ensure documents safekeeping

project support preferably in the Culture Sector; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in Culture, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Beirut. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
