Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the UNV Country Coordinator, the UNV National Specialist will perform the followings tasks:

Support the UNV Field Unit

  • Direct contact with Volunteer organizations, NGOs working and the UN Communications Team and the Operations Management team;
  • Assist with program-related procurement of services/goods and ensuring adherence to policy and guideline;
  • Undertake or support logistical, administrative, and financial arrangements required for the successful planning and delivery of UNV activities including recruitments, reassignments, end of assignments.

Travel Management

  • Organize, arrange, and follow-up travel requests for UNVs where needed;
  • Work with UNDP travel officers and other UN Entities to ensure clearances for travel are organized;
  • Document travel requests and monitor travel-related activities.
  • Make travel arrangements for the Programme Team and UNVs where needed, including travel requisitions and claims;

General Administrative Tasks

  • Assist in the daily management of the Field Unit;
  • Respond to volunteer queries and correspondences;
  • Organize monthly volunteers meetings;
  • Organize induction and support preparation of induction information briefs:

Communications

  • Assist the UNV Programme Analyst in the constant communication with the UN Volunteers’ group;
  • Assist in planning and organizing events, missions, workshops, meetings, and other gatherings;
  • Support/ create stories to be promoted at national and international level as best-practices of volunteering in the Country;

Support the Country Coordinator where needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

A degree in business, commerce, administration, or finance will be desirable. Experience in communications is also valuable.

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 3 years) in administration and communications.

Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge

Area of expertise:

Logistics and supply management, Development programme/project administration, Other communications related experience

Area of expertise details:

Administration, Travel, Procurement.

  • 3 years of previous relevant experience in administration or project/programme management and/or communications;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Computer literacy - Word, Excel, Power-point, etc.
  • Good writing and communication skills.
