This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Through the Regional Office, and under the supervision of the Programme Analyst/Country Coordinator for Jordan based in the UNV Regional Office, the Programme Assistant provides administrative and operational assistance for Jordan Portfolio, in support of volunteer mobilization and deployment

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Programme Analyst or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Programme Assistant will:

• Support the Programme Analyst with outreach activities to UN entities region, for demand generation and information on UNV modalities; • Assist in the development and finalization of Description of Assignments, and in recording them in the Unified Volunteer Platform (UVP). • Support the deployment and assignment management of all UN Volunteer modalities; • Coordinate with UNV HQ, UNDP/Host Entity focal points the digitalization of files of all UN Volunteers assigned to the countries of Jordan portfolio, ensuring that all correspondence and periodic reports (online) are properly kept, and that related matters requiring action are brought to the attention of his/her supervisor; • Monitor and keep records of the contractual status of all serving UN Volunteers and flag to his/her supervisor, follow-up actions on assignment extensions, renewals and replacements to VSC follow-up actions; • Maintain up to date contact records (online copies) of all serving UN Volunteers, including their recognized dependents; • Ensure that initial contract documents, beneficiary forms and inventories of personal effects of UN Volunteers are up-to-date, and submitted to UNV headquarters, VSC (through UVP) in a timely manner, in accordance with the relevant provisions included in the UN Security Handbook as well as in the UN Volunteer Conditions of Service and Standard Operating Procedures; • Assist on the logistical and travel arrangements of arriving UN Volunteers and their recognized dependents; • Ensure the necessary support provided to UN Volunteers upon their arrival and deployment; • Provide support with emergency cases involving UN Volunteers and recognized dependents in the country, including cases of medical evacuation, security evacuations or the death of a UN Volunteer; • Support the monitoring of UN Volunteers’ satisfaction with their assignments and flag any issues to the supervisor; • Provide the necessary support to UN Volunteers upon arrival, to open bank accounts as well as to complete forms required to obtain visas, residence permits, etc.; • Assist UNV HQ in ensuring all conditions are met before the payment of final entitlements to UN Volunteers at their end of assignment • When required, act as temporary back up to the Programme Assistants in other Field Units • In coordination with UNDP HR focal point: * Ensure the induction session for the newly deployed UN Volunteers is provided within the first 2 weeks of the assignment. * Support the organization of regular meetings with the serving UN Volunteers, retreat, training sessions, etc. * Support collection of success stories from Jordan to be used for UNV advocacy efforts. * Support the organization of the national celebration of the International Volunteer Day in Jordan as instructed by the Country Coordinator. * Support the organization of the national launch of the SWVR 2022 in Jordan. * Ensure the residency requests and visa extension requests for Intl UN Volunteers are submitted to UNDP Operations Associate and processed in timely manner. * Ensure ATLAS e-services access is granted to the UN Volunteers and their supervisors • Support in drafting the local “certificate of service” letters; upon the request of UN volunteers for bank use or other local purposes

administration and/or programme support service, experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Amman, the capital, is a peaceful city with over four million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Amman. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Amman is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Amman have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Amman is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Jordan is a family duty station (category A hardship).

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.
