UNFPA has been a partner of the Government of India and People since 1974 and is now on its 9th five-year Country Programme. The Country Programme leverages large-scale government programmes to advance the needs of adolescents and girls and advance gender equality, such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Save Daughters and Educate Daughters), Scheme for Adolescent Girls, Adolescent Health Programme, and school-based programmes to reach girls and boys at scale. UNFPA’s support to the formal school systems through the Adolescence Education Programme has steadily moved towards institutionalization. UNFPA remains a trusted and important partner to both the Ministries of Health and Education to support the roll-out and institutionalization of the Comprehensive School Health Programme. UNFPA’s technical support to strengthen the on-ground implementation of Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (National Adolescent Health Programme) is well recognized. While working with national government programmes, the interventions have also been designed to demonstrate innovative ways of reaching out to vulnerable adolescent girls. UNFPA aims to advance women and young people’s rights, especially girls, through interventions that keep girls in school, delay marriage and child bearing, prevent unintended pregnancy, protect them against and address gender-based violence, and promote the social, health and economic assets of the most vulnerable. The programme seeks to reimage young people, promote their responsible participation and civic engagement, and thud unleash their full potential as agents of positive transformative in their communities and society at large. The Youth Volunteer will support the adolescent, youth and gender programme in the State and will engage with other programme units at State and national levels. He/She will have strong working relationships with the Adolescent/Youth and Gender Specialists in the Country Office in New Delhi.

Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Representative and the direct supervision of the State Programme Coordinator the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Support Programme Management and Coordination: • Support the implementation of UNFPA supported programming in the area of adolescents and youth and gender, applying appropriate strategies and interventions relevant to the State, and for achieving Country Programme results. • Contribute to the formulation of the annual work plans for the State in the area of adolescents and youth and gender, ensuring application and contextualization of appropriate best practices and latest scientific knowledge in the field of adolescent and youth development, especially adolescent reproductive health and gender equality. • Provide support to monitoring the day-to-day implementation of work plans through regular consultations with stakeholders and field visits. • Contribute to preparedness and response to humanitarian crises in the State, ensuring adequate attention given to the needs of women and girls, and inclusion of young people during emergencies.

B. Support to Policy Dialogue and Technical Assistance: • Support the State Programme Coordinator in policy dialogue with Government counterparts and UN and other development partners at the State level, by helping to prepare briefs and evidence-based materials and data, in favour of policies and budget allocations for programmes targeting women and girls, adolescents and youth. • Stay up-to-date with UNFPA corporate technical and programme policies and guidelines. • Contribute to establishing and nurturing collaboration and partnerships with technical networks on adolescents and youth development and gender equality.   C. Support to Advocacy and Resource Mobilization: • Provide support towards advocacy efforts of the State and Country Offices, contributing to project summaries, conference papers, speeches, donor and high level visitor briefs. • Contribute technical and evidence-based inputs to advocacy messages on the rights and needs of women and young people, especially girls in respective State. • Contribute to CO resource mobilization initiatives, identifying opportunities to leverage funding from government and private sector; contribute inputs to concept notes and proposals writing. • Support CO communications efforts, providing relevant state materials. • Carry out any other duties as may be required by UNFPA leadership.

Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in Programme implementation and management • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded; • Strong team skills including ability to establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds; ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan and those relevant to the team members • Resourcefulness, efficient in taking initiative, maturity of judgment, tact; • Good analytical, organizing and planning skills; • Good communication and negotiation skills; • Ability to work independently; • Willingness to travel to project sites and other areas as needed

The duty station will be Delhi, India. New Delhi is the national capital of India and is situ-ated in the central part of India. The city is home to thousands of businesses and interna-tional companies and embassies, making it very cosmopolitan in nature, and culturally rich.
