Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the NPO-HIV and Humanitarian Response the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Under direct supervision of the HIV and Humanitarian Programme Officer, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of programme activities related the Japan project supplemental budget. S/he provide technical assistance on SRH, GBV interventions in humanitarian settings thorough;
• Assist in the planning, preparation and data collection process of various monitoring and evaluation exercises in humanitarian settings under clear guidance from the head of unit;
• Identify, analyse, and synthesize evidence and technical knowledge in the area of GBV and SRH in humanitarian settings;
• Document best practices and lessons learnt related to the Country Office interventions in regards to humanitarian response and support knowledge sharing;
• Support the office in maintaining and fostering partnerships in the area of SRHR, including Family Planning, Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health, Maternal Health and STI/HIV prevention in humanitarian settings;
• Support advocacy and resource mobilization efforts of the country office by preparing relevant documentation i.e. project summaries, conference papers, speeches, donor profiles and participating in donor meetings and public information events, contribute to fulfilling donor’s as well as UNFPA statutory reporting requirements;
• Support liaison between Japan Government and UNFPA for matters related to Japan project;
• Support in coordination, planning and reporting of RG2 Result groups in the area of humanitarian response;
• Participate and contribute to Humanitarian coordination meetings;
• Support humanitarian reporting in general with special emphasis on Japan project Reports;
• Report to supervisor any possible/ potential constraints to program implementation and recommend solutions to overcome such obstacles;

• Perform other duties as and when required by UNFPA Representative/Deputy UNFPA representative / direct supervisor.

• Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);

• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, demography, development studies or other related fields.

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

• At least 3 years of experience of programme management
• Two to maximum four years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the area of SRH, GBV;
• Field experience in humanitarian settings and development in programme service delivery and program coordination would be a strong asset
• Experience working in collaboration with government, development partners, civil society organizations, particularly on issues affecting women and girls in humanitarian settings in an asset.
• Proven ability to effectively collaborate with team members to achieve demonstrable results;
• Highly motivated, proactive, able to work independently with proven ability to exercise sound judgement and initiative, working in harmony with people from different backgrounds and cultures;
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills;
• Proficiency in current office software applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).

Language skills:

• English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
• French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
