Contract

This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

  1. Provide substantive support to the implementation and management of the women’s empowerment and resilience building programme
  • Provide support in the implementation of programme activities, particularly at the state and local level;
  • Review, coordinate and monitor the submission of implementing partner reports;
  • Provide substantive inputs to the preparation of donor and UN Women reports and Steering Committee;
  • Contribute to identifing areas for support and intervention related to the programme and formulation of programme/ project proposals and initiatives;
  • Support drafting of concept notes, background paper, briefing notes, program documentation, donor profiles, terms of reference etc.
  1. Provide substantive inputs to establishment of partnership and lead social mobilization aspects of the program at State and local level:
  • Support the coordination of the call/request for proposals, including the organization of technical review committees, and capacity assessment of partners;
  • Coordinate with other partners on the ground implementing projects in Rakhine to strengthen synergies, harmonization and collaboration on gender equality and women’s empowerment aspect of the programs;
  • Lead designing and implementation of advocacy and social mobilization aspects of the programme component in collaboration with implementing partners, government counterparts and others as relevant;
  • Represent UN Women at relevant interagency coordination meetings as required and support gender mainstreaming at State level in Rakhine.
  1. Provide substantive support to Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), advocacy and knowledge management
  • Monitor data and reports from partners on a quarterly basis, update progress status of the programme monitoring framework;
  • Visit partners, along with the programme team, to support monitoring of results and planning processes, as required;
  • Support developing and updating integrated results and resource framework for the Country Office’s (CO) Annual Work Plan (AWP) and Strategic Note;
  • Include relevant inputs from evaluation findings, conclusions and recommendations into programme formulation;
  • Liaise with advocacy partners and undertake outreach to civil society organizations, governments, and other groups to ensure that newsworthy information reaches the public and donors;
  • Coordinate and organize advocacy campaigns, events, trainings, workshops and knowledge products;
  • Coordinate the development of knowledge management methodologies, and products on women’s empowerment and resilience building.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Master's degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/women's studies, international development, or a related field is required.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in development programme/project planning, implementation, coordination, and Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Knowledge of gender equality and women’s empowerment, and gender in humanitarian action, including in the Myanmar context, an advantage
  • Experience coordinating and liaising with local partners, community leaders and government agencies
  • Excellent writing, reporting, research and analytical skills, with a track record in writing research papers, guidelines, program development documents and reports (in English) related to gender and humanitarian issues, preferably related to the context of Southeast Asia
  • Previous experience with UN Women and other UN Agencies and engaging with diverse stakeholders, including CSOs, (I)NGOs, etc. an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel to remote locations under difficult circumstances
