Background

Conditions of the Internship:

  • As of 1 January 2020, Interns may be given a stipend according to the UNDP Internship Policies, if is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme;
  • Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship. UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship;
  • The intern will be evaluated at the end of the contract and due recognition of work will be issued in writing.

Background

In response to a formal request from the Government of the Republic of Armenia to provide electoral assistance and based on recommendations of the UN Needs Assessment Mission and subsequent Desk Review for the pre-term elections issued on April 28, 2021, UNDP has developed this project to assist the Armenian stakeholders in holding of parliamentary elections on 20 June 2021, as well as in longer term transformation and capacity building of electoral management bodies. The immediate assistance for 20 June 2021 elections focused on strengthening institutional capacities of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia to ensure smooth process of voter authentication, introduce health and safety measures to mitigate the risks of COVID-19 and conduct voter awareness especially tailoring women and people with disabilities followed by the lessons learned exercise to identify areas for improvement and long-term UN assistance.

Currently UNDP Armenia seeks a qualified Intern to support the programme team. The Intern will work under direct supervision of the Chief Technical Specialist and in close cooperation with the UNDP Electoral Support Project in Armenia-3 Project’s team, Democratic Governance Portfolio, and the counterpart institutions/organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Intern will include:

1. Work with the Project Database and Content Management Systems

Electoral Support Project in Armenia – 3 is aiming to create its specific Database and Content Management System (DBCMS) designed to ensure comprehensive projects-related data collection. The Intern will be responsible for regular inputs and maintenance of the Database and Content Management System, as well as other project spreadsheets by collecting, compiling, and exchanging data with the national and international partners.

S/he will also regularly check the RA Central Electoral Commission’s website on upcoming local elections, CEC decisions, and technically report on status on men and women running and elected.

2. Work with Social Media

Social media is one of the primary public awareness channels of the Electoral Support Project in Armenia-3. In close collaboration with the UNDP Communication Analyst, UNDP Chief Technical Specialist the Intern will be responsible for the regular contribution and maintenance of the project social media platforms and networks, report on analytics, as well as insight dynamics in line with the Program Communication Strategy and emerging communication priorities.

3. Support in subject-matter research

The intern will be also responsible for data search and compilation in support to the planned researches within the projects.

Based on the research the intern might be requested to prepare short outlines/narratives.

4. Provide administrative and logistical support

The Intern will provide support to the projects team in

  1. Administrative, financial and logistical work;
  2. Note taking;
  3. Arrangement for the organization of meetings/events/workshops;
  4. Tracking the receipt of the financial documentation including invoices;
  5. Ensuring ongoing communication, enquiries with the beneficiaries through frequent phone calls and e-mail;
  6. Translation and interpretation services from/to English and Armenian during meetings or at the request of the Chief Technical Specialist, as required.

5. Other duties

Other tasks may be assigned as required.

Competencies

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of gender-related aspects and trends in Armenia will be a strong asset;
  • Strong skills in running/managing social media will be a strong asset;
  • Demonstrated analytical skills;
  • Demonstrated initiative, tact and high sense of responsibility and discretion;
  • Strong teamwork skills;
  • Ability to work under the pressure;
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral including ability to proofread Armenian and English texts;
  • Excellent networking skills;
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, etc.); ability to design and maintain spreadsheets, as well as in handle web-based management systems.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Experience:

Applicants must have experience in:

  • Events organization;
  • Spreadsheet development and database maintenance;
  • Social media platform maintenance and/or analytics.

Languages:

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Armenian, Russian is an asset.
